Overdominance and U-shaped gene frequency distributions
Nature, 1976A GENERAL pattern that emerges from electrophoretic analyses of protein variation in natural populations is that alleles with intermediate frequencies are rare. This results, graphically, in a U-shaped frequency distribution when both allele frequencies from a two-allele locus are plotted.

Muller, Dobzhansky, and overdominance
Journal of the History of Biology, 1987The most important issue on which H. J. Muller and Th. Dobzhansky differed was a question that had puzzled plant and animal breeders during most of the first half of the twentieth century. Breeders were concerned with maximizing performance. Dobzhansky was concerned with the potential of the species for further evolution and so was Muller, but his ...

Inferring the major genomic mode of dominance and overdominance
Genetica, 1998The mode of within-locus gene action in most genomic regions is termed as the major genomic mode, i.e., it is the within-locus allelic effects in most regions of the genome. Determining whether dominance or overdominance is the major genomic mode is important for two long-standing evolutionary genetics issues: 1.
