A patient who ingested 1.5 g pentazocine developed status epilepticus, coma, respiratory depression, acidosis, profound hypotension, and ventricular arrhythmias. Although this patient survived after institution of general supportive measures, she did not respond to usual doses of naloxone.

N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is the treatment of choice for acetaminophen overdose. With this therapy, morbidity from overdose can be held to a minimum. Mortality is rare in any case and virtually nonexistent in treated patients. Unless a high index of suspicion is maintained, the diagnosis may be missed until it is too late for effective antidotal treatment.

Dipyrone is a pyrazolone derivative used as an analgesic and antipyretic. Agranulocytosis, dipyrone's most serious and potentially fatal adverse effect, has led to its withdrawal in several countries. However, agranulocytosis is subject to geographical variability, ratio with at risks ranging from 0.8-23.7.
