The Stud Attachment Overlay Denture and Proprioception
A procedure for fabricating stud attachments for use on mandibular teeth has been developed. The retention of two or more isolated mandibular roots for use with an overlay denture will preserve tooth proprioception, which is one of the major determinants of masticatory function.

Adverse effects of resilient denture liners in overlay dentures
Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1974Abstract A resilient silicone denture liner has been used in overlay dentures for retentive purposes to avoid placing crowns on remaining teeth. Experimental overlay and pin partial denture
Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1967Abstract A series of tests was made to compare the retention of a removable partial denture by overlay pins with a similar removable partial denture that was retained by clasps. The results indicate that greater retention was attained with overlay pins than with clasps.

The role of the overlay denture in the prevention of mandibular ridge atrophy*
Australian Dental Journal, 1978Abstract— The overlay denture concept may be used to postpone and in some cases avoid the atrophied mandibular ridge syndrome.
