Beyond the single-basket mindset: a multi-gas approach to better constrain overshoot in near term warming

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
The remaining carbon budget framework tracks progress towards the Paris Agreement’s goal to limit longer-term warming to well below 2 °C, but no analogous framework exists for constraining mid-century warming.

Origin of stress overshoot in amorphous solids

open access: yes, 2015
Based on the shear-transformation-zone (STZ) theory, we propose a constitutive model for describing homogeneous elastoplastic deformation of amorphous solids where the interaction of shear transformations and free volume dynamics is incorporated.

Scalable Fabrication of Chemically Stabilized Gelatin Hydrogel Fibers by Thermal Drawing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Scalable processing of hydrogel fibers remains a major challenge. By coupling thermal drawing with Maillard chemistry, a transient viscous‐flow window is created that enables continuous fabrication of microstructured gelatin fibers tens of meters long, while continued in situ crosslinking during drawing stabilizes the fibers for physiological ...

Echinoderm‐Inspired Autonomy for Soft‐Legged Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Inspired by echinoderms, a modular soft robot achieves autonomous phototaxis without a central controller or explicit communication. Each limb independently adapts its actuation timing through local sensing and short‐term memory. Coordination emerges purely from physical interactions, demonstrating resilience to changes in morphology, environment, and ...

A State‐Adaptive Koopman Control Framework for Real‐Time Deformable Tool Manipulation in Robotic Environmental Swabbing

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents a state‐adaptive Koopman linear quadratic regulator framework for real‐time manipulation of a deformable swab tool in robotic environmental sampling. By combining Koopman linearization, tactile sensing, and centroid‐based force regulation, the system maintains stable contact forces and high coverage across flat and inclined surfaces.

Evidence that end-of-century emulation errors under overshoot remain largely within internal variability in an Earth system model

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
Overshoot emission scenarios, in which a warming threshold is temporarily exceeded before returning to lower temperatures, are becoming increasingly relevant in the face of insufficient reductions of greenhouse gas emissions.

Compliant Pneumatic Feet with Real‐Time Stiffness Adaptation for Humanoid Locomotion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A compliant pneumatic foot with real‐time variable stiffness enables humanoid robots to adapt to changing terrains. Using onboard vision and pressure control, the foot modulates stiffness within each gait cycle, reducing impact forces and improving balance. The design, cast in soft silicone with embedded air chambers and Kevlar wrapping, offers durable,

Real-Time Overshoot and Undershoot Detection in Cellular Networks

open access: yesIEEE Access
One of the most crucial aspects of cellular networks is coverage, as it determines the areas where users can connect to the network and utilize its services.

Numerical Modeling of Photothermal Self‐Excited Composite Oscillators

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We present a numerical framework for simulating photothermal self‐excited oscillations. The driving mechanism is elucidated by highlighting the roles of inertia and overshoot, as well as the phase lag between the thermal moment and the oscillation angle, which together construct the feedback loop between the system state and the environmental stimulus.
