Suppression of Transient Overvoltages on Instrumentation Wiring Systems

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1985
Modern electronic analog instrumentation equipment is vulnerable to damage by transient overvoltages appearing on signal and power supply wiring. Experience with overvoltages and relatively simple techniques to avoid damage are discussed.

Suppression of abnormal overvoltages on an HVDC transmission system

Electrical Engineering in Japan, 1978
The abnormal overvoltage characteristics of an HVDC transmission system consisting of overhead and cable power conductors and a neutral return wire are analyzed. A dc transient network analyzer is used for the analysis. Measures proposed and discussed for suppressing overvoltages are the use of reverse biased diodes and damping circuits.

Overvoltage suppression filter design methods based on voltage reflection theory

IEEE International Electric Machines and Drives Conference, 2003. IEMDC'03., 2003
To reduce voltage overshoot at the motor terminal, RLC filters are used at the inverter side with an objective of increasing the rise time, while RC filters are used at the motor side as a means of reducing the load impedance at high frequency. However, no clear optimal method for determining the filter parameters has appeared. In this work, we propose

A Normalized Quantitative Method for GaN HEMT Turn-ON Overvoltage Modeling and Suppressing

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2019
Gallium nitride high electron mobility transistor has been seen as a power semiconductor devices with lots of potential since it has been commercialized. However, the advantages of fast switching speed with low conduction resistance always have to compromise to the fast switching on evoked overvoltage.

Suppression of Fast Transient Overvoltage During Gas Disconnector Switching in GIS

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1986
This paper describes the suppression of the transient overvoltage caused by gas disconnector switching of a small capacitive charging current in a gas insulated switchgear substation. The overvoltage is suppressed by the insertion of a resistor with an appropriate value during the switching. A scale model gas disconnector with the resistor is developed.

Lightning overvoltage suppression to UHV power transformer by ferromagnetic ring

Electric Power Systems Research, 2013
Abstract Lightning overvoltage protection is of great importance to the safety of devices in UHV GIS. In practice, insulation failure of UHV transformer due to lightning strike is often reported. The widely used UHV metal-oxide arresters can suppress the magnitude of lightning overvoltage but lack effectiveness on alleviating the steepness.

A Novel Gate Driver for Suppressing Overcurrent and Overvoltage of SiC MOSFET

2019 10th International Conference on Power Electronics and ECCE Asia (ICPE 2019 - ECCE Asia), 2019
SiC MOSFET has faster switching speed, lower RDs(on), and higher breakdown voltage when compared with Si MOSFET. Therefore., SiC MOSFET can work at work at higher frequencies., even Mhz. However., the overvoltage and overcurrent (OVOC) of SiC MOSFET become more serious with the increase of frequency due to the low damping and the parasitic parameters ...

Analysis of Switching Overvoltage and Suppression Measures in UHV Transmission Lines

Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2019
As the ultrahigh-voltage (UHV) projects are rapidly developing, it is necessary to investigate the problems involved in overvoltage and insulation, thereby providing a technical basis for future UHV projects. The switching overvoltage of closing no-load lines was simulated and analyzed here using two kinds of typical UHV network structures: the power ...

Overvoltage suppression of SRM inverter for effective use of regenerative power

2016 IEEE Industrial Electronics and Applications Conference (IEACon), 2016
This paper proposes inverter circuit with snubber circuit to suppress the overvoltage of inverter circuit I which can use regenerative power effectively to improve the efficiency. And the effect of overvoltage suppression is verified. Furthermore, the influences of excitation angle and resistance are analyzed by simulation results using MATLAB Simulink.
