Adenotonsillectomy and the Development of Overweight

OBJECTIVE. Studies among patients have shown accelerated weight gain after (adeno)tonsillectomy.* Whether (adeno)tonsillectomy is also a risk factor for the development of overweight is unknown. Overweight and mortality

Mortality ratios by relative weight categories compared to average weights were computed for 750,000 men and women. Data came from the American Cancer Society's prospective study, conducted in 1960-1972. Males who were 40% or more overweight had a mortality ratio of 1.87 for all causes of death. The ratio in women was 1.89.

Overweight and Obesity in Kuwait

THE AIM of this study was to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity among adult females. A multistage stratified sample of 2999 adult females was examined. 52.5% were found to be overweight (10-20% above reference weight tables) and 42% obese (more than 20% above reference standards). The numbers increased with age.
