First complete coding sequence of ovine herpesvirus 2 from a malignant catarrhal fever case of Formosan sambar deer in Taiwan: Genomic characterization and molecular epidemiology.

The Veterinary Journal
Malignant catarrhal fever (MCF) is a highly fatal disease of cattle and other cloven-hoofed animals, most commonly caused by ovine herpesvirus 2 (OvHV-2), a member of the subfamily Gammaherpesvirinae. Despite nearly four decades since its identification,

Effect of passive transfer of maternal immune components on infection with ovine herpesvirus 2 in lambs

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 2002
Abstract Objective—To define the role of passively tranferred immunity in protection against early infection with ovine herpesvirus 2 (OvHV-2) in lambs. Animals—15 adult sheep and 34 lambs. Procedure—2 groups of animals were used, including 15 lambs born to OvHV-2-free ewes and 19 lambs born to OvHV-2-positive ewes.

Experimental induction of malignant catarrhal fever in pigs with ovine herpesvirus 2 by intranasal nebulization

Veterinary Microbiology, 2012
Malignant catarrhal fever (MCF), a frequently fatal herpesviral disease primarily of ruminant species, has been sporadically reported in pigs. All cases of naturally occurring porcine MCF reported to date have been linked to ovine herpesvirus 2 (OvHV-2), a gammaherpesvirus in the genus Macavirus carried by sheep.

Differential Transcription of Ovine Herpesvirus 2 Genes in Lymphocytes from Reservoir and Susceptible Species

Virus Genes, 2006
Ovine herpesvirus 2 (OvHV-2) is a lymphotropic gammaherpesvirus that asymptomatically infects most sheep, but causes malignant catarrhal fever in cattle, bison, pigs and deer. There is no permissive cell culture system but OvHV-2-infected T lymphocytes can be cultured from diseased animals.

Validation and functional analysis of Ovine Herpesvirus 2-encoded microRNAs

2017
Ovine herpesvirus 2 (OvHV-2) is a gammaherpesvirus of domestic sheep and causes the lymphoproliferative disease malignant catarrhal fever (MCF) in susceptible ruminants, including cattle. Sheep are latently infected but do not develop disease. MCF is characterised by proliferation of non-antigen specific cytotoxic large granular lymphocytes which leads

The molecular pathogenesis of Ovine Herpesvirus 2

2018
Malignant catarrhal fever (MCF) is a lymphoproliferative and inflammatory disease of cattle, deer and other ruminants. It is caused mainly by one of two herpesviruses, alcelaphine herpesvirus 1 (A1HV-1) and ovine herpesvirus 2 (OvHV-2). A1HV-1 can be grown in tissue culture; its complete genome has been sequenced and the virus characterised as a ...

Development of a Diagnostic-Serological Assay for Ovine Herpesvirus-2

2018
ction of antibodies against MCFV. Potentially antigenic components of the ELISA lysate were analysed by western blotting in comparison with other bovine herpesviruses, and fractionation by gel filtration showed clear antigenic bands in the eluent. Proteomic analysis of antigenic bands identified proteins encoding viral thymidine kinase (ORF21), a virus

Functional analysis of ovine herpesvirus 2 encoded microRNAs

2015
Ovine herpesvirus 2 (OvHV-2) is a gamma herpesvirus and is the causative agent of lymphoproliferative disease – sheep-associated malignant catarrhal fever in susceptible ruminants, including cattle. Sheep become persistently infected but do not show apparent clinical infection.
