Morphology of exophytic ovipositors in dragonflies (Odonata: Gomphidae, Corduliidae, Libellulidae), with particular reference to ovipositor muscles and sensilla

open access: yesInternational Journal of Odonatology, 2011
A comparative study of female external genitalia was carried out in representatives of three dragonfly families that lay eggs exophytically, with special emphasis placed on skeletal musculature and sensilla. Female external genitalia are characteristically represented by the vulvar lamina and rudiments on the 9th sternum.

Biomechanics of a parasitic wasp ovipositor : Probing for answers

open access: yes, 2019
Insects such as mosquitoes, true bugs, and parasitic wasps, probe for resources hidden in various substrates. The resources are often, located deep within the substrate and can only be reached with long and thin (slender) probes. Such probes can, however,

Data from: Limited thermal plasticity and geographic divergence in the ovipositor of Drosophila suzukii

open access: yes, 2019
Phenotypic plasticity has been repeatedly suggested to facilitate adaptation to new environmental conditions, as in invasions. Here we investigate this possibility by focusing on the worldwide invasion of Drosophila suzukii: an invasive species that has ...

Ultramorphology of the ovipositor of Venturia canescens (Gravenhorst) and possible mechanisms for oviposition

open access: yes, 2012
Morphology, ultrastructure and possible mechanics of the ovipositor of Venturia canescens (Gravenhorst) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) is described using scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The ovipositor of V. canescens consisted of three pairs

Apechoneura longicauda Kriechbaumer (HYMENOPTERA: ICHNEUMONIDAE: LABENINAE), PARASITOID OF Phloeoborus punctatorugosus Chapuis (COLEOPTERA: CURCULIONIDAE: SCOLYTINAE)

open access: yesTecnociencia, 2008
Observations of the parasitism of Phloeoborus punctatorugosus (Curculionidae: Scolytinae) by Apechoneura longicauda (Ichneumonidae: Labeninae) are presented. This is the first host record for a species of Apechoneura.
