The Morphology of the Ovipositor of Draeculacephala

Annals of the Entomological Society of America, 1933
The ovipositor of Draeculacephala mollipes (Say) is carried in a longitudinal receptacle (Pl. I, Fig. 8, a) in the caudoventral part of the abdomen. It consists of two pairs of chitinous valvulae (Pl. I, Figs. 1 and 2), which have come to lie mostly in the same caudocephalic plane. The anterior pair (Pl. I, Fig.

Sensory receptors of the ovipositor ofTrichogramma maidis [Hym.:Trichogrammatidae]

Entomophaga, 1990
Sensory receptors of the ovipositor ofTrichogramma maidis are described. Sense organs are found on the 2nd valvifers (1 type), on the tip of the 3rd valvulae (2 types) and on the 1st valvulae (4 types). The nature and possible functions of these sensilla are discussed.

New diagnostic ovipositor characters for doryctine wasps (Hymenoptera, Braconidae)

Journal of Natural History, 1992
Characters previously used to distinguish the braconid wasp subfamily Doryctinae show considerable variation. Here we illustrate three new female external adult characters that will facilitate recognition of doryctines and allow precise definition of the subfamily.

Variation in ovipositor morphology among laniatorean harvestmen (Arachnida: Opiliones)

Zoomorphology, 2015
There are relatively few published illustrations of ovipositors for harvestmen belonging to the suborder Laniatores. As a result, the ovipositor of these harvestmen has largely been ignored as a source of informative characters. We used scanning electron microscopy to examine the ovipositor of eight species representing several major lineages ...

The Ovipositor System of Isostasius (Platygastroidae: Platygastreidae)

The ovipositor of Isostasius species is unique to the Platygastridae family and is characterized by a system of coiled valvulae. This morphological structure acts as a hypodermic needle comprising hollow tubes that facilitate egg-laying. The coiling mechanism assists in oviposition in parasitoid wasps, encouraging egg deposition in isolated larvae with

Structure of ovipositors and cladoendesis of Saltatoria, or Orchesopia

Entomological Review, 2016
The oldest circumscriptional names of the taxon under consideration are Orchesopia Rafinesque, 1815 and Saltatoria Latreille, 1817. The recent Saltatoria are divided into two subordinate taxa whose circumscriptional names are Dolichocera Bey-Bienko, 1964 and Caelifera Ander, 1936 [= Metorthoptera Crampton, 1927 = Brachycera Bey-Bienko, 1964 (non ...
