Oestrus Ovis Ophthalmomyiasis Externa

Oestrus ovis, the sheep nasal botfly, is the most common cause of ophthalmomyiasis externa in North America. In the United States, most cases occur on Catalina Island. The symptoms of acute infestation with this organism resemble those of catarrhal conjunctivitis and the condition is considered to be self-limiting. Treatment consists of careful removal

Transferrins and hemoglobins of Ovis canadensis, Ovis dalli and Ovis musimon were analyzed by electrophoresis and compared with domestic sheep reference transferrins and hemoglobins. 2. 2. The following Tf's were observed: Tf's D and E in O. canadensis ; Tf D in O. dalli ; and Tf's C, D and E in O. musimon .

Leukotoxin (Lkt) is the primary virulence factor secreted by Mannheimia haemolytica which causes pneumonia in ruminants. Previously, we have shown that CD18, the beta subunit of beta(2) integrins, mediates Lkt-induced cytolysis of ruminant leukocytes.
