Salivary cortisol as an indicator of stress in sheep (Ovis ovis)
New Zealand Veterinary Journal, 1995Abstract Recent workp(1)(2) has suggested that measuring salivary cortisol may provide a noninvasive measurement of stress-induced changes. A noninvasive collection technique is particularly useful in stress and welfare studies because the technique may not impose additional stress, as would a more invasive technique such as venepuncture.

Abstract 1. 1. Transferrins and hemoglobins of Ovis canadensis, Ovis dalli and Ovis musimon were analyzed by electrophoresis and compared with domestic sheep reference transferrins and hemoglobins. 2. 2. The following Tf's were observed: Tf's D and E in O. canadensis ; Tf D in O. dalli ; and Tf's C, D and E in O. musimon .

Sex related differences in analgesia in sheep (Ovis ovis)
New Zealand Veterinary Journal, 1997Abstract Extract Perception of, and relief from, pain differs markedly between individual animals(1). In a humane system of animal care, this requires addressing. I have investigated the analgesic effects of different opioid agonists in male and female sheep, and the results suggest a sex-related difference in the efficacy of both kappa (𝛋) and

Theileria ovis discovered in China
Experimental Parasitology, 2011A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using 989/990 primers was conducted to identify a newly isolated Theileria sp. in Xinjiang Province of China. The target DNA fragments of the complete 18S rRNA gene were cloned and sequenced. The phylogenetic relationship of newly isolated Theileria spp. was inferred based on the 18S rRNA gene.

Oestrus Ovis Ophthalmomyiasis Externa
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1984Oestrus ovis, the sheep nasal botfly, is the most common cause of ophthalmomyiasis externa in North America. In the United States, most cases occur on Catalina Island. The symptoms of acute infestation with this organism resemble those of catarrhal conjunctivitis and the condition is considered to be self-limiting. Treatment consists of careful removal

Feeding behaviour of Psoroptes ovis
Veterinary Record, 1983Psoroptes ovis-infested sheep, examination of skin samples (frozen sections by light microscopy and freeze fractured material by scanning electron microscopy) reveals no evidence such as embedded mite mouthparts, localized tissue damage tracts, or cellular infiltrations to support opinion that mite penetrates deeper than outermost loose stratum ...
