Role of Sex Hormone Receptors in Ovulation

open access: yesTaiwanese Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2005
Sex hormones including progestins, androgens, and estrogens produced de novo from cholesterol within the ovary play important roles in the growth and differentiation of reproductive tissues and in the maintenance of fertility.

Effect of HCG-Triggered Ovulation on Pregnancy Outcomes in Intrauterine Insemination: An Analysis of 5,610 First IUI Natural Cycles With Donor Sperm in China

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2020
Objective: To evaluate the effect of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) trigger ovulation on pregnancy outcomes in natural IUI cycles with donor sperm. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 5,610 first-natural IUI cycles with donor sperm in ...

Frustration-induced inherent instability and growth oscillations in pollen tubes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In a seed plant a pollen tube is a vessel that transports male gamete cells to an ovule to achieve fertilization. It consists of one elongated cell, which exhibits growth oscillations, until it bursts completing its function. Up till now, the mechanism behind the periodic character of the growth has not been fully understood.

Induced Spawning of F1 Wreckfish (Hāpuku) Polyprion oxygeneios Using a Synthetic Agonist of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone

open access: yesFishes, 2019
Wild-caught hāpuku (Polyprion oxygeneios) spawn readily in captivity, but although first filial (F1) hāpuku complete vitellogenesis, females fail to undergo oocyte maturation and spawn or produce poor quality eggs.

Mutations in the Genes for Oocyte-Derived Growth Factors GDF9 and BMP15 Are Associated with Both Increased Ovulation Rate and Sterility in Cambridge and Belclare Sheep (Ovis aries)1

open access: yesBiology of Reproduction, 2004
Belclare and Cambridge are prolific sheep breeds, the origins of which involved selecting ewes with exceptionally high litter size records from commercial flocks. The variation in ovulation rate in both breeds is consistent with segregation of a gene (or

The Known and Unknown About Female Reproductive Tract Mucus Rheological Properties

open access: yesBioEssays, EarlyView.
Mucus viscosity changes as spermatozoa travel through the female reproductive tract to the egg in humans, bovines, mice, and other mammals. These changes may aid in spermatozoa navigation. However, limited information is available on the viscoelastic properties of female reproductive tract mucus, and consistent measurement techniques are lacking ...

Gonadotrofina coriônica eqüina: purificação, caracterização e resposta ovariana em ovinos e suínos Equine chorionic gonadotrophin: purification, characterization and ovarian activity in ewes and gilts

The Octopamine Receptor Octβ2R Regulates Ovulation in Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Oviposition is induced upon mating in most insects. Ovulation is a primary step in oviposition, representing an important target to control insect pests and vectors, but limited information is available on the underlying mechanism.

Impact of Menstrual Cycle and Oral Contraceptives on Haematological and Inflammatory Biomarkers in Highly Trained Female Athletes

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
In highly trained female athletes, haematological and inflammatory biomarkers were found to be independent of menstrual cycle phase, but oral contraceptive use increased transferrin, reticulocyte count and triglycerides and decreased interleukin‐6.

Dissection of the Ovulatory Process Using ex vivo Approaches

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2020
Ovulation is a unique physiological phenomenon that is essential for sexual reproduction. It refers to the entire process of ovarian follicle responses to hormonal stimulation resulting in the release of mature fertilization-competent oocytes from the ...
