Furin‐Mediated Cleavage of Zona Pellucida Proteins Is Essential for Oocyte Development

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 12, December 2025.
The furin cleavage site mutation leads to a failure in transmembrane transport process of non‐modified ZP2 protein. This unsuccessful ZP2 secretion might result in the decreased expression of exocytosis complex SNAREs, which further induces oocyte apoptosis via p53 pathway and PI3K signaling.

In Vitro Gamete Production in Mammals: Decades of Pioneering Approaches in Germ Cell and Stem Cell Biology Supporting Innovative Discovery and Expansion of Human Reproductive Potential

open access: yesMolecular Reproduction and Development, Volume 92, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT During recent decades a myriad of approaches have emerged for generating surrogate gametes or achieving in vitro gametogenesis (IVG). The most recent approaches to IVG include the development of increasingly complex culture systems, use of companion cells combined with germ line cells in two‐ or three‐dimensional configurations, derivation of ...

Prognostic value of maternal N‐terminal pro‐B‐type natriuretic peptide for prediction of severe maternal adverse outcome in women with pre‐eclampsia

open access: yesUltrasound in Obstetrics &Gynecology, Volume 66, Issue 6, Page 754-761, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Objective N‐terminal pro‐B‐type natriuretic peptide (NT‐proBNP), a marker of cardiac stress, has been proposed as a potential prognostic biomarker for maternal adverse outcome in pre‐eclampsia (PE). This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of NT‐proBNP for severe maternal adverse outcome in pregnancies with an established diagnosis of

Geographical variation in male eastern wild turkey gobbling activity relative to female nesting chronology

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, Volume 49, Issue S1, December 2025.
We investigated the temporal relationship between wild turkey gobbling and nesting and how the timing of these behaviors overlapped with the hunting season across three distinct physiographic ecoregions in North Carolina, USA. Although daily gobbling activity was highly variable within and among years, nest initiation timing was consistent across years

Hormones reflect the impacts of reproductive rest on subsequent pregnancy in a marine predator

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 12, Page 3417-3433, December 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract After reaching sexual maturity, iteroparous female vertebrates may intermittently skip producing offspring, effectively taking a year of reproductive rest. This may confer benefits to lifetime fitness by enhancing future reproductive success.
