By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Reversible Control of the Mn Oxidation State in SrTiO3 Bulk Powders

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2019
We demonstrate a low-temperature reduction method for exhibiting fine control over the oxidation state of substitutional Mn ions in strontium titanate (SrTiO3) bulk powder.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

NiCo/Al2O3 nanocatalysts for the synthesis of 5-amino-1-pentanol and 1,5-pentanediol from biomass-derived 2-hydroxytetrahydropyran

open access: yesGreen Chemical Engineering
Al2O3-supported monometallic Ni, Co, and bimetallic Ni–Co nanocatalysts originated from layered double hydroxide precursors were synthesized by co-precipitation method, and used for the synthesis of useful 5-amino-1-pentanol (5-AP) and 1,5-pentanediol (1,

XPS analysis of Fe - doped ZnO nanopowder [PDF]

open access: yesTehnika, 2015
The paper presents results of investigation of ZnO nanopowder doped with Fe by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). XPS analysis confirmed presence of all constitutive elements at the sample surface.

Towards time-dependent, non-equilibrium charge-transfer force fields: Contact electrification and history-dependent dissociation limits

open access: yes, 2013
Force fields uniquely assign interatomic forces for a given set of atomic coordinates. The underlying assumption is that electrons are in their quantum-mechanical ground state or in thermal equilibrium.

High oxidation state bromocarbyne complexes

open access: yesChemical Communications, 2017
Bromination of the carbyne complexes [W(CR)Br(CO)2(dcpe)] (R = Ph, SiPh3; dcpe = 1,2-bis(dicyclohexylphosphino)ethane) provides high oxidation state derivatives [W(CPh)Br3(dcpe)] and [W(CBr)Br3(dcpe)], the latter via an unprecedented bromodesilylation process.

Stabilization of the + IV oxidation state in siloxide supported terbium compounds.

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, 2019
The synthesis of lanthanides, other than cerium, in the oxidation state +IV has remained for a long time a desirable but unmet target. Here we report the third example of a molecular complex of terbium(IV) which was isolated and characterized by EPR, UV ...
