Modelling oxide–oxide and oxide–metal interfaces
J. Chem. Soc., Faraday Trans., 1990Recent years have seen a large increase in interest in interfaces of ionic and ceramic crystals and an appreciation of their importance in determining many of the properties of materials. Static-lattice calculations have made a major impact on the interpretation of the role of point defects in controlling observed behaviour in the bulk and are now ...

Abstract: The oxidative modification of proteins by reactive species, especially reactive oxygen species, is implicated in the etiology or progression of a panoply of disorders and diseases. These reactive species form through a large number of physiological and non‐physiological reactions.

Training and operation of an integrated neuromorphic network based on metal-oxide memristors
Nature, 2014Despite much progress in semiconductor integrated circuit technology, the extreme complexity of the human cerebral cortex, with its approximately 1014 synapses, makes the hardware implementation of neuromorphic networks with a comparable number of ...

The understanding of the role of lipoprotein oxidation is still incomplete. Much is still to be learned about the mechanism of action of oxidized lipoproteins on different types of cell, as well as the origin of the oxidation process, and how it links to the situation in vivo.

Abstract: There is a large body of evidence showing both metabolic defects and oxidative damage in Alzheimer's disease. Studies of cybrid cell lines show reduced cytochrome oxidase. There is also substantial evidence for a defect in a‐ketoglutarate dehydrogenase.

The immediate source of energy for muscle contraction is provided by the hydrolysis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). However, muscle ATP stores are not large and would be consumed in only a few seconds of high-intensity exercise if they were not quickly replenished.

AbstractPeroxide production is detected using DCFH‐DA, superoxide anion by hydroethidine; the methods can be combined for simultaneous detection. A support protocol describes calibration of the flow cytometer to permit calculation of the actual H2O2 production per cell.
