Graphene Oxide Layer-by-Layer Films for Sensors and Devices. [PDF]
Layer-by-layer films of poly (allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and graphene oxide (GO) were characterized, looking at growth with the number of bilayers, morphology, and electrical properties. The PAH/GO films revealed a linear increase in absorbance with the increase in the number of deposited bilayers, allowing the determination that 10.7 ± 0.1 mg m−2

Unusual layer-by-layer growth of epitaxial oxide islands during Cu oxidation [PDF]
AbstractElucidating metal oxide growth mechanisms is essential for precisely designing and fabricating nanostructured oxides with broad applications in energy and electronics. However, current epitaxial oxide growth methods are based on macroscopic empirical knowledge, lacking fundamental guidance at the nanoscale.

Nanoscale Hydration in Layered Manganese Oxides [PDF]
Birnessite is a layered MnO2 mineral capable of intercalating nanometric water films in its bulk. With its variable distributions of Mn oxidation states (MnIV, MnIII, and MnII), cationic vacancies, and interlayer cationic populations, birnessite plays key roles in catalysis, energy storage solutions, and environmental (geo)chemistry. We here report the

Boosting water oxidation layer-by-layer [PDF]
Electrocatalysis of water oxidation was achieved using fluorinated tin oxide (FTO) electrodes modified with layer-by-layer deposited films consisting of bilayers of negatively charged citrate-stabilized IrO2 NPs and positively charged poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) polymer.

Oxidative Layer-By-Layer Multilayers Based on Metal Coordination: Influence of Intervening Graphene Oxide Layers [PDF]
Layer-by-layer (LbL) fabricated oxidative multilayers consisting of successive layers of inorganic polyphosphate (PP) and Ce(IV) can electrolessly form thin conducting polymer films on their surface. We describe the effect of substituting every second PP layer in the (PP/Ce) multilayers for graphene oxide (GO) as a means of modifying the structure and ...

For the dry storage of Canada Deuterium Uranium (CANDU) spent nuclear fuels, the integrity of Zircaloy-4 fuel cladding has to be verified. However, the formation of ~10 µm-thick oxide layers in typical CANDU reactor operating conditions takes several years, which makes sample preparation a slow process.

Atomic Layer-by-Layer MOCVD of Oxide Superconductors [PDF]
A very smooth surface film of c-axis oriented YBa2Cu3Ox (YBCO) with roughness of less than monomolecular layer over 10µmx10µm, free of precipitates, has benne obtained by atomic layer-by-layer metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) on a SrTiO3 substrate at 650°C.

Atomic layer deposition of tin oxide with nitric oxide as an oxidant gas [PDF]
Atomic layer deposition (ALD) of tin oxide (SnO2) thin films was achieved using a cyclic amide of Sn(II) (1,3-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-4,5-dimethyl-(4R,5R)-1,3,2-diazastannolidin-2-ylidene) as a tin precursor and nitric oxide (NO) as an oxidant gas. Film properties as a function of growth temperature from 130–250 °C were studied.

Block-Layer Concept for the Layered Cobalt Oxide: A Design for Thermoelectric Oxides
High-Tc Cu oxides consist of the alternating stack of the superconductive CuO2 layer and the block layer, such as Bi2Sr2O4 or La2-xSrxO2. By changing the block layer, we can change their physical properties, such as transition temperature Tc. The thermoelectric Co oxides have a similar layered structure composed of the conductive CoO2 layer and the ...

Superconducting Properties in Layered Cuprate Oxides [PDF]
It is probable in layered cuprate oxides such as YBa2Cu3O7 and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 that superconductivity is generated in the CuO2 layers and superconductivity in the other layers is induced by the proximity effect. According to the present theoretical study, it was found that unusual properties observed in the experiments of tunneling conductance, optical ...
