3‐D Sustained‐Release Culture Carrier Alleviates Rat Intervertebral Disc Degeneration by Targeting STING in Transplanted Skeletal Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 15, April 17, 2025.
Schematic representation of mechanisms by which the 3‐D sustained‐release culture carrier prevents accumulation of ROS by continuously releasing C‐176@PDA‐NPs and inhibiting the cGAS‐STING activated by sudden hypoxia, thereby preventing ferroptosis and promoting differentiation in SSCs and ultimately attenuating IVDD progression.

Biotransformations using lipase enzymes in organic solvents [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Enzymatic transformations in organic solvents have received increasing attention over the past 10 years and lipases have become by far the most popular enzymes in this area. The initial aim of the research was to assess the effect of small modifications ...

Bio‐inspired Catalyst‐Modified Photocathode for Bias‐Free Photoelectrochemical NADH Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 8, February 24, 2025.
Inspired by the structure and function of the thylakoid membrane and electron transport mediator function of Ferredoxin, a catalyst‐immobilized photocathode is constructed by self‐assembly of the aliphatic chain substituted [Rh(Cp*)(bpy)] molecules (Rh‐vi2+) and aliphatic chain decorated polythiophene semiconductors (PTTH), which can be coupled with a ...

Enzymatic and Enzyme‐Free Electrochemical Lactate Sensors: A Review of the Recent Developments

open access: yesElectrochemical Science Advances, Volume 5, Issue 1, February 2025.
ABSTRACT Lactate is a useful analytical indicator in various fields. The lactate monitoring benefits from evaluating the body's condition, as excessive muscle use or fatigue can result in injury. Further, it is useful for alerting to emergencies like haemorrhage, hypoxia, respiratory distress, and sepsis.

Star‐Like Polypeptides as Simplified Analogues of Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) Metalloenzymes

open access: yesMacromolecular Bioscience, Volume 24, Issue 10, October 2024.
Peroxidases like HRP are powerful biocatalysts for oxidation reactions. Inspired by HRP, star‐shaped polypeptide analogues are synthesized via a grafting‐from approach, ring‐opening polymerization, and manganese porphyrins. These analogues exhibit enhanced resistance to denaturation and catalytic activity in oxidation reactions with H2O2.

Biomimetic models for redox enzyme systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Supramolecular chemistry involves the study of noncovalent interactions that take place between molecules. A supramolecule or host-guest complex is formed when a noncovalent binding or complexation event occurs between two such molecules. Hydrogen bonds,

The radical impact of oxygen on prokaryotic evolution—enzyme inhibition first, uninhibited essential biosyntheses second, aerobic respiration third

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 598, Issue 14, Page 1692-1714, July 2024.
Traditional views of oxygen's role in evolution focus on improved energy yield in heterotrophic pathways. Before respiratory terminal oxidases arose, however, oxygen potently inhibited anaerobic growth, often by degrading FeS clusters. Several pathways for essential cofactors include enzymes with FeS clusters, selecting for alternative, oxygen‐tolerant

Enzymes for the synthesis of bioactive compounds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The definition of Green Chemistry was first formulated at the beginning of the 1990s – 30 years ago and states as follows: “design of chemical products and processes to reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances” (Poliakoff et al.

Mechanistic Studies on D-arginine Dehydrogenase and Functional Annotation of a Novel NADH:quinone Oxidoreductase (PA1024) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Pseudomonas aeruginosa D-arginine dehydrogenase (PaDADH) is an FAD-dependent enzyme that catalyzes the oxidative deamination of D-arginine to generate the corresponding α-keto acid and ammonia.

The extracellular peroxygenase of the agaric fungus Agrocybe aegerita: catalytic properties and physiological background with particular emphasis on ether cleavage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Litter-decay fungi have recently been shown to secrete heme-thiolate peroxygenases that oxidize various organic chemicals, but little is known about the physiological role or the mechanism of these enzymes. The aromatic peroxygenase of Agrocybe aegerita (
