Physical properties of a Mollisol, an Oxisol and an Inceptisol
Soil and Tillage Research, 1990Abstract An Inceptisol (Andept) from Ecuador, an OOxisol (Ustox) from Columbia and a Mollisol (Udoll) from the U.S.A. were studied. The clay in the Andept was >85% amorphous with allophane being predominant. The Ustox contained sesqui-oxides of iron and aluminum and kaolinite, while the Udoll contained hydrous mica, quartz and kaolinite in the clay ...

Liming Potential of Composts Applied To an Acid Oxisol in Burundi
Compost Science & Utilization, 1999The adverse effect of soil acidity on plant growth and yield, and the scarcity of commercial agricultural lime (CaCO3) in Burundi necessitated a search for alternative liming materials. Thus, the liming potential of locally made composts was evaluated in a greenhouse experiment, using an acid Oxisol with sorghum (Sorghum vulgaris) as a test plant ...

Particle size distribution of Oxisols in Brazil
Geoderma Regional, 2016Abstract Soil texture or particle size distribution is of fundamental importance not only for understanding soil chemical and physical functioning but also for soil classification within a given taxonomic system. The objective of this study was to collect and analyze particle size data of Brazilian “Latossolos” (Oxisols) published in the Brazilian ...

Atrazine leaching through surface and subsurface of a tropical Oxisol
Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part B, 2008The fate of (14)C atrazine was investigated using microcosms and an undisturbed Red-Yellow Latossol (Oxisol) under simulated rainfall conditions of 200 mm water month(-1). Experiments were carried out using microcosm cores, the first with an uncovered surface soil; the second set with uncovered subsurface soil; the third with subsurface soil covered ...

Application of Calorimetry to Microbial Biodegradation Studies of Agrochemicals in Oxisols
Journal of Environmental Quality, 2001ABSTRACTCalorimetry was used to monitor the inhibitory effect caused by the bipyridynium diquaternary salts paraquat, diquat, and phosphamidon on microbial activity in a Red Latosol soil (Oxisol). The thermal effect was recorded on samples composed of 1.50 g of soil, 6.0 mg of glucose, 6.0 mg of ammonium sulfate, and different masses of an inhibitor ...

Considerations on the evaluation of the fertility of oxisols in Brazil
Chemical Geology, 1987Abstract Based on the analysis of some of the physical and chemical properties of the reddish-colored soils from southeast Brazil four fertility classes of soils were proposed. The soils of class 1 which are characterized by a low inherent fertility are sandy soils which become less fertile after cultivation.

Improving phosphorus availability in Andisols and Oxisols
2016Low phosphorus (P) availability limits plant growth in many soils, particularly in Andisols and Oxisols, due to their large content of minerals that strongly sorb P (e.g. Al/Fe oxyhydroxides, allophane). Because of the strong P retention, P fertilizer requirements are high in these soils.
