Activating lattice oxygen in NiFe-based (oxy)hydroxide for water electrolysis
Transition metal oxides or (oxy)hydroxides have been intensively investigated as promising electrocatalysts for energy and environmental applications. Oxygen in the lattice was reported recently to actively participate in surface reactions.

Bonding, Conductance and Magnetization of Oxygenated Au Nanowires [PDF]
Spin-density-functional calculations of tip-suspended gold chains, with molecular oxygen, or dissociated oxygen atoms, incorporated in them, reveal structural transitions for varying lengths. The nanowires exhibit enhanced strength for both oxygen incorporation modes, and upon stretching tip atoms join the wire.

Hydrogen/nitrogen/oxygen defect complexes in silicon from computational searches [PDF]
Point defect complexes in crystalline silicon composed of hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen atoms are studied within density-functional theory (DFT). Ab initio Random Structure Searching (AIRSS) is used to find low-energy defect structures. We find new lowest-energy structures for several defects: the triple-oxygen defect, {3O}, triple oxygen with a ...

Declining oxygen in the global ocean and coastal waters
Beneath the waves, oxygen disappears As plastic waste pollutes the oceans and fish stocks decline, unseen below the surface another problem grows: deoxygenation. Breitburg et al.

The Influence of the Atmospheric Electric Field on Soil Redox Potential
Atmospheric electric fields (AEFs) have recently been proposed to link to biogeochemical processes below the Earth’s surface by means of a charge separation.

Oxygen depletion hypothesis remains controversial: a mathematical model of oxygen depletion during FLASH radiation [PDF]
Background: Experiments have reported low normal tissue toxicities during FLASH radiation, but the mechanism has not been elaborated. Several hypotheses have been proposed to explain the mechanism. The oxygen depletion hypothesis has been introduced and mostly studied qualitatively.

Antioxidants, oxidative damage and oxygen deprivation stress: a review.
Oxidative stress is induced by a wide range of environmental factors including UV stress, pathogen invasion (hypersensitive reaction), herbicide action and oxygen shortage.

Computational Discovery of Fast Interstitial Oxygen Conductors [PDF]
New highly oxygen-active materials may enhance many energy-related technologies by enabling efficient oxygen-ion transport at lower temperatures, e.g., below 400 Celsius. Interstitial oxygen conductors have the potential to realize such performance but have received far less attention than vacancy-mediated conductors.
