Formation of Branched Ruthenium Nanoparticles for Improved Electrocatalysis of Oxygen Evolution Reaction

open access: yes, 2019
Branched nanoparticles are one of the most promising nanoparticle catalysts as their branch sizes and surfaces can be tuned to enable both high activity and stability.

Local Structural Changes in Polyamorphous (Ni,Fe)Ox Electrocatalysts Suggest a Dual-Site Oxygen Evolution Reaction Mechanism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Amorphous nickel-iron mixed metal oxides have been shown to be extremely efficient oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts with good stability in alkaline reactionconditions.

L‐aspartate oxidase provides new insights into fumarate reduction in anaerobic darkness in Synechocystis sp. PCC6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Synechocystis strains deficient in succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) secrete more succinate than the WT under dark anaerobic conditions, supporting that SDH then primarily acts as SDH, not as a fumarate reductase. L‐aspartate oxidase (Laspo) from Synechocystis is functional under anaerobic conditions, reducing fumarate to succinate.

Electrochemical etching of α-cobalt hydroxide for improvement of oxygen evolution reaction

open access: yes, 2016
Exploring low-cost and high-efficiency electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is of paramount importance to develop large-scale alkaline water-splitting electrolyzers (AWEs).

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...

The current state of transition metal-based electrocatalysts (oxides, alloys, POMs, and MOFs) for oxygen reduction, oxygen evolution, and hydrogen evolution reactions

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research
Climate change is showing its impacts now more than ever. The intense use of fossil fuels and the resulting CO2 emissions are mainly to blame, accentuating the need to develop further the available energy conversion and storage technologies, which are ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Efficient electrocatalysts derived from praseodymium-doped MOFs and MXene for oxygen reduction, hydrogen evolution, and oxygen evolution reactions

open access: yesCarbon Trends
In response to the urgent need for high-performance non-precious metal electrocatalysts to address the energy crisis and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, we propose a novel approach to develop a highly selective and efficient electrocatalyst derived ...

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...
