Normal‐Appearing White Matter Injury Mediates Chronic Deep Venous Hypoxia and Disease Progression in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore how cerebral hypoxia and Normal‐Appearing White Matter (NAWM) integrity affect MS lesion burden and clinical course. Methods Seventy‐nine MS patients, including 13 clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) patients and 66 relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients, and 44 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited from ...

Periodic breathing induced by arterial oxygen partial pressure oscillations

open access: yesMathematical Medicine and Biology, 2003
The Grodins model of respiratory control (Grodins et al., 1967) describes cardio-respiratory control for a lung with homogeneous gas concentrations. In this study we modify the Grodins model to take account of the inhomogeneities in gas concentration within the lung that are seen in many subjects with respiratory illnesses.

Clinical Validation of Plasma p‐217tau in Neurological Diseases

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Plasma p‐217tau is a minimally invasive but specific biomarker for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, its disease specificity remains to be clinically evaluated. We validated the reliability of the p‐217tau biomarker in 12 other neurological diseases.

Nonflammable organic-base paint for oxygen-rich atmospheres [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
New paint formulations, which combine aqueous latex paints with inorganic pigments and additives, produce coatings that are self-extinguishing in pure oxygen at pressures up to twice the partial pressure of atmospheric oxygen.

Thermoregulatory Vasodilation Increases the Venous Partial Pressure of Oxygen

open access: yesAnesthesia & Analgesia, 1997
Thermoregulatory arteriovenous shunt vasoconstriction may facilitate deep-vein thrombosis by producing relative venous stasis and hypoxia. Accordingly, we evaluated the effect of vasomotion on leg blood flow and venous oxygen tension. We studied five male volunteers, each of whom was warmed enough to trigger vasodilation and then cooled sufficiently to

The Role of Calcitonin Gene‐Related Peptide in High‐Altitude Headache: A Prospective Field Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective High‐altitude headache (HAH) is a common neurological condition associated with rapid ascent to high altitude. The pathophysiological mechanisms underlying HAH remain incompletely understood. Calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP), a neuropeptide implicated in migraine pathophysiology, may play a key role in the pathophysiology of ...

Process-Parameter-Dependent Structural, Electrical, and Optical Properties of Reactive Magnetron Sputtered Ag-Cu-O Films

open access: yesJournal of Nanotechnology, 2011
Silver-copper-oxide thin films were formed by RF magnetron sputtering technique using Ag80Cu20 target at various oxygen partial pressures in the range 5 × 10−3–8 ×10−2 Pa and substrate temperatures in the range 303–523 K.

Adjustment of Coatings Morphology and Particle Distribution of Layered Silicates by Freeze‐Drying for Improved Gas Barriers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Freeze‐drying of layered silicate is the key to get coatings with superior gas barrier. Freeze‐drying of layered silicates modified with dodecylamine (DDA) is a highly effective technique for the preparation of barrier pigments that significantly mitigate the permeation of oxygen, water vapor, and hydrogen through polymer films containing these ...
