Emergency nurse : the journal of the RCN Accident and Emergency Nursing Association
Considerable research has focused on pulse oximeters since their introduction into clinical practice and much of it has been limited to a study of patient hypothermia and movement. The main problems have been vaso- constriction and poor functioning of the light emission diodes in cold environments, as well as operational difficulties.

Femoral venous oxygen saturation is no surrogate for central venous oxygen saturation*
Critical Care Medicine, 2012The purpose of our study was to determine if central venous oxygen saturation and femoral venous oxygen saturation can be used interchangeably during surgery and in critically ill patients.Prospective observational controlled study.Nonacademic university-affiliated teaching hospital in The Netherlands. One hundred cardiac outpatients, 30 high-risk ...

The fraction of incident light which is returned from a turbid sample contains information about the pigments within the sample. Analysis of the spectra of this returned light allows detailed information of the relative quantity of these pigments to be determined.

Oxygen delivery and venous oxygen saturation monitoring
Hospital Medicine, 2003Maintenance of adequate oxygen delivery is essential to ensure survival from shock, critical illness and major surgery. Impaired oxygen delivery can result in tissue hypoxia, anaerobic metabolism, lactic acid production and oxygen debt. If sustained, this sequence of events can lead to multiorgan failure and death.

Fetal oxygen saturation during labour
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 1997Objective To derive oxygen saturation by pulse oximetry (SpO2) values at each cervical dilatation in labour in fetuses with normal neonatal outcome.Participants One hundred and forty‐five women at term in established labour with ruptured membranes and cervical dilatation at least 2 cm who had normal delivery outcome.

Reproducibility of Muscle Oxygen Saturation
International Journal of Sports Medicine, 2011The present study evaluated the reproducibility of tissue oxygenation in relation to oxygen consumption (VO2) across cycle exercise intensities in a test-retest design. 12 subjects (25.7±2.1 years; 24.7±1.9 kg · m(-2)) twice performed an incremental bicycle exercise protocol, while tissue oxygen saturation (StO2) in the vastus lateralis muscle was ...

Oxygen Saturation during Electroconvulsive Therapy
British Journal of Psychiatry, 1987Oxygen saturation was measured during anaesthesia and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) using ear oximetry. Significant hypoxia occurred during some treatments; desaturation related to the number of ventilations performed after muscle relaxation and prior to the shock. Desaturation did not correlate significantly with seizure duration.

Nomenclature of Oxygen Saturation
1994This paper addresses a controversial question relating to the definition of oxygen saturation as O2 content/O2 capacity: Whether, O2 capacity should include a) only oxyhemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin, designated herein as O2Hb + HHb, or b) total hemoglobin, tHb = O2Hb + HHb + COHb + MetHb.

Oxygen saturation and cognitive performance
Psychopharmacology, 2002The purpose of the experiments was to investigate how inhalation of 100% oxygen affected cognitive performance. A test battery was developed that was designed to capture different aspects of cognitive processes, i.e., perception, attention, working memory, long-term memory and prospective memory.
