For exercise modalities such as cycling which recruit a substantial muscle mass, muscle oxygen uptake (VO2) is the primary determinant of pulmonary VO2. Indeed, the kinetic complexities of pulmonary VO2 associated with exercise onset and the non-steady state of heavy (> lactate threshold) and severe [> asymptote of power-time relationship for high ...

Measurement of Corneal Oxygen Uptake
American journal of optometry and physiological optic, 1981Abstract Because of the importance of the rate of oxygen uptake by the cornea, various techniques have been used to measure the oxygen utilization. A probe covered by a polyethylene membrane can be placed against the unanesthetized cornea and the rate of change in oxygen tension recorded. The rate can be converted to indicate the rate

The relationship between oxygen demand, oxygen uptake, and oxygen supply
Intensive Care Medicine, 1990Results of the relationships between oxygen supply, demand, and uptake can be used to interpret cardiac output values, identify types of acute circulatory failure, guide attempts to improve cellular function, and thus prevent the development of multiple organ failure and death. Five steps in the interpretation of cardiac output values are recommended: (

Oxygen Delivery and Oxygen Uptake in Postoperative and Septic Patients
Chest, 1990Pathologic dependency of VO2 on DO2 has been reported in postoperative and septic patients. We studied the influence of an artifact due to calculation of VO2 from CO and AV content difference. In 13 postoperative and seven septic patients, the relationships between DO2 and cVO2 and between DO2 and mVO2 were analyzed by linear regression.

Oxygen uptake/oxygen supply dependency: Fact or fiction?
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, 1995More than a decade ago, observations of co‐variance between VO2 and DO2 led to the identification of a condition known as pathological O2 supply dependency. This condition was subsequently observed in critically ill patients with sepsis and acute circulatory failure.

Abstract The two main purposes of Chapter 22 are to (i) explore the methodological issues involved in assessing the O2 kinetic response to exercise in children, and (ii) explain the O2 kinetic response to exercise in children and review the literature regarding changes with age and sex and with respect to conventional markers of aerobic ...

[Oxygen uptake and maximal oxygen uptake: interests and limits of their measurements].
Annales de readaptation et de medecine physique : revue scientifique de la Societe francaise de reeducation fonctionnelle de readaptation et de medecine physique, 2004The paper presents a review of the interests and limits of oxygen uptake measurement in the functional testing of athletes and disabled people. The validity of the oxygen uptake as an estimation of the oxygen consumption and aerobic synthesis of ATP is discussed in the introduction of the review.

Oxygen transfer parameters and oxygen uptake rates revisited
Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part A, 2019This paper provides a review of the essential equations and parameters that are used to design bioreactor aeration systems. Major objectives were to determine if the log-deficit method (LDM) and non-linear regression method (NLRM) yielded different results for the volumetric oxygen mass transfer coefficient (KL a)T and dissolved oxygen (DO) saturation ...

Oxygen Uptake by Nanorchestes antarcticus (Acari)
Oikos, 1976Oxygen consumption rates of the minute terrestrial mite, Nanorchestes antarcticus Strandtmann were measured at +5?C with a Cartesian Diver microrespirometer. Individual respiration rates were in the range 0.156 (deutonymph) to 1.135 (tritonymph) x 10-3 p1 02 ind-lh-1.
