Treatment and removal strategies for estrogens from wastewater [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Natural and synthetic steroidal estrogens (estrone, 17β-estradiol and 17α-ethinylestradiol) are endocrine disrupters, that are discharged consistently from the sewage treatment works into surface waters, thereby causing endocrine disrupting effects to ...

Continuous‐Flow Photocatalytic Degradation of Glyphosate and Aminomethylphosphonic Acid Under Simulated Sunlight with TiO2‐Coated Poly(vinylidene fluoride) Membrane

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Glyphosate (GLY) and its primary metabolite, aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA), are photodegraded using a poly(vinylidene fluoride) membrane with immobilized titanium dioxide (PVDF‐TiO2) in a continuous flow‐through operation under solar light. At optimized conditions, the PVDF‐TiO2 membrane achieved 95% GLY and 80% AMPA removal with •O2− as the ...

Complex Cryptographic and User‐Centric Physically Unclonable Functions Enabled by Strain‐Sensitive Nanocrystals via Selective Ligand Exchange

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates electromechanical PUFs that improve on traditional electric PUFs. The electron transport materials are coated randomly through selective ligand exchange. It produces multiple keys and a key with motion dependent on percolation and strain, and approaches almost ideal inter‐ and intra‐hamming distances.

Low-dosage ozonation in gas-phase biofilter promotes community diversity and robustness

open access: yesMicrobiome, 2021
Background The ozonation of biofilters is known to alleviate clogging and pressure drop issues while maintaining removal performances in biofiltration systems treating gaseous volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

The Role of Sulphate and Phosphate Ions in the Recovery of Benzoic Acid Self-Enhanced Ozonation in Water Containing Bromides

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
The ozonation of aromatic compounds in low-pH water is ineffective. In an acidic environment, the decomposition of ozone into hydroxyl radicals is limited and insufficient for the degradation of organic pollutants.

Sonolysis of levodopa and paracetamol in aqueous solutions. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Pharmaceutical products are often present in wastewater treatment effluents, rivers, lakes and, more rarely, in groundwater. The advanced oxidation methods, like ultrasound, find a promising future in the area of wastewater treatment.

Oxygen-ozone therapy: paradoxical stimulation of ozone

open access: yesOzone Therapy, 2016
After several years of scientific research and accurate clinical practice, the oxygen-ozone therapy continues to represent a method full of prospects and new opportunities. On this basis we present an updated review on basic mechanisms through which the ozone acts.

Photonic Engineering Enables All‐Passive Upconversion Imaging with Low‐Intensity Near‐Infrared Light

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A passive upconversion imaging system enables the observation of scenes illuminated by low‐intensity incoherent near‐infrared light from 750 to 930 nm, by converting it into the visible without the use of external power. The upconverter is enabled by triplet–triplet annihilation in a bulk heterojunction, with absorption enhanced by plasmonic resonators

Is Ozonation Treatment Efficient to Provide Safe Reclaimed Water? Assessing the Effects of Synthetic Wastewater Effluents in Human Cell Models

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Ozonation has been promoted as a successful methodology for recovering effluents from wastewater treatment plants, with special emphasis on wastewater contaminated with pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs).
