The Anisotropic Adsorption of De Novo Allosteric Two‐Component Protein Fibers on Mica Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interfacial behavior of de novo designed proteins that self‐assemble into tubular architectures with distinct morphologies — small (S), large (L), and helical (H) fibers — at the muscovite mica‐water interface is explored using in situ AFM. Abstract Protein adsorption at solid–liquid interfaces underlies many biomedical and materials

Tropospheric Ozone Assessment Report:Assessment of global-scale model performance for global and regional ozone distributions, variability, and trends

open access: yes, 2018
The goal of the Tropospheric Ozone Assessment Report (TOAR) is to provide the research community with an up-to-date scientific assessment of tropospheric ozone, from the surface to the tropopause.

Tropospheric Ozone Assessment Report: Tropospheric ozone from 1877 to 2016, observed levels, trends and uncertainties

open access: yesElementa: Science of the Anthropocene, 2019
From the earliest observations of ozone in the lower atmosphere in the 19th century, both measurement methods and the portion of the globe observed have evolved and changed.

Artificial Neural Network to predict mean monthly total ozone in Arosa, Switzerland

open access: yes, 2006
Present study deals with the mean monthly total ozone time series over Arosa, Switzerland. The study period is 1932-1971. First of all, the total ozone time series has been identified as a complex system and then Artificial Neural Networks models in the ...

Quantum‐Grade Nanodiamonds from a Single‐Step, Industrial‐Scale Pressure and Temperature Process

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Novel method for creation of nitrogen‐vacancy centers in 50‐nm nanodiamonds based on high‐temperature plastic deformation is demonstrated. Compared to the electron irradiation approach, it yields nitrogen‐vacancy centers with significantly improved charge stability, T1 relaxation time, and optical Rabi contrast.

Survival time after marked reduction in oral intake in terminally ill noncancer patients: A retrospective study

open access: yesJournal of General and Family Medicine, 2020
Background The prediction of short‐term survival is important for noncancer patients and their families. Although a markedly reduced oral intake by cancer patients suggests a poor prognosis, the survival times of noncancer patients after its onset remain

Multi-decadal surface ozone trends at globally distributed remote locations

open access: yesElementa: Science of the Anthropocene, 2020
Extracting globally representative trend information from lower tropospheric ozone observations is extremely difficult due to the highly variable distribution and interannual variability of ozone, and the ongoing shift of ozone precursor emissions from ...

Mesoporous Carbon Thin Films with Large Mesopores as Model Material for Electrochemical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoporous carbon thin films possessing 70 nm mesopores are prepared on titanium substrates by soft templating of resol resins with a self‐synthesized poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(hexyl acrylate) block copolymer. A strategy to avoid corrosion of the metal substrate is presented, and the films are extensively characterized in terms of morphology ...

The Circadian Rhythm of Itching among 241 Adults with Atopic Dermatitis: A Cross-sectional Study

open access: yesActa Dermato-Venereologica
The pattern of itching in patients with atopic dermatitis has not been systematically studied. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the pattern of itching in adults with atopic dermatitis using questionnaires to assess for a circadian rhythm of itching ...

Does a Morphotropic Phase Boundary Exist in ZrxHf1‐xO2‐Based Thin Films?

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates 6 nm zirconium‐rich hafnium‐zirconium oxide thin–film metal–insulator–metal capacitors using a combination of experimental methods and machine learning–based molecular dynamics simulations to provide insight into the physical mechanisms that enhance the dielectric constant near 0 V and attribute it to the field‐induced ...
