Non-contrast renal magnetic resonance imaging to assess perfusion and corticomedullary differentiation in health and chronic kidney disease [PDF]
AIMS Arterial spin labelling (ASL) MRI measures perfusion without administration of contrast agent. While ASL has been validated in animals and healthy volunteers (HVs), application to chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been limited. We investigated the

This study examined the urinary excretion of tetrodotoxin (TTX) modeled in a porcine renal proximal tubule epithelial cell line, LLC-PK1. Time course profiles of TTX excretion and reabsorption across the cell monolayers at 37 °C showed that the amount of

Renal hemodynamic and morphological changes after 7 and 28 days of leptin treatment: the participation of angiotensin II via the AT1 receptor. [PDF]
The role of hyperleptinemia in cardiovascular diseases is well known; however, in the renal tissue, the exact site of leptin's action has not been established.

Interaction of solid organic acids with carbon nanotube field effect transistors [PDF]
A series of solid organic acids were used to p-dope carbon nanotubes. The extent of doping is shown to be dependent on the pKa value of the acids. Highly fluorinated carboxylic acids and sulfonic acids are very effective in shifting the threshold voltage and making carbon nanotube field effect transistors to be more p-type devices.

Acamprosate is an anionic drug substance widely used in treating symptoms of alcohol withdrawal. It was recently shown that oral acamprosate absorption is likely due to paracellular transport.

AIMS Previous studies suggest that estimated creatinine clearance, the conventional measure of renal function, does not adequately reflect changes in renal drug handling in some patients, including the immunosuppressed.

Role of hydrophobic interaction in hapten-antibody binding [PDF]
The precipitation reaction of bovine serum albumin coupled with p-azophenylleucine with homologous antibody was inhibited by several structurally related haptens. The isobutyl group substituent on alpha-carbon atom of the leucine residue contributed more

Symmetry Scheme for Amino Acid Codons [PDF]
Group theoretical concepts are invoked in a specific model to explain how only twenty amino acids occur in nature out of a possible sixty four. The methods we use enable us to justify the occurrence of the recently discovered twenty first amino acid selenocysteine, and also enables us to predict the possible existence of two more, as yet undiscovered ...

Gut Microbiota-derived Bile Acids Promote Gamma-secretase Activity Through Interactions with Nicastrin Subunits [PDF]
Alzheimer's disease (AD) has emerged as a progressively pervasive neurodegenerative disorder worldwide. Bile acids, synthesized in the liver and modified by the gut microbiota, play pivotal roles in diverse physiological processes, and their dysregulation in individuals with AD has been well-documented.
