Expected value, to a point: Moral decision‐making under background uncertainty

open access: yesNoûs, EarlyView.
Abstract Expected value maximization gives plausible guidance for moral decision‐making under uncertainty in many situations. But it has unappetizing implications in ‘Pascalian’ situations involving tiny probabilities of extreme outcomes. This paper shows, first, that under realistic levels of ‘background uncertainty’ about sources of value independent

Experienced meditators show greater forward traveling cortical alpha wave strengths

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, EarlyView.
Evidence shows mindfulness meditation improves attention and mental health. Neural mechanisms underlying these effects are not fully understood. Cortical travelling waves index inhibitory functions for top‐down expectations (backward waves travelling from frontal to posterior regions) or to enhance sensory processing (forward waves).

OrchardQuant‐3D: combining drone and LiDAR to perform scalable 3D phenotyping for characterising key canopy and floral traits in fruit orchards

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
Summary Orchard fruits such as pear and apple are important for ensuring global food security and agricultural economy as they not only provide essential nutrients, but also support biodiversity and ecosystem services. Breeders, growers and plant researchers constantly study desirable tree morphological features and floral characteristics to ensure ...

Associations between attenuated auditory p300 event‐related potential and cognitive basic symptoms in young people at clinical high risk for psychosis

open access: yesPsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, EarlyView.
Aims The value of assessing basic symptoms in clinical‐high‐risk for psychosis (CHR) is becoming increasingly apparent. Greater recognition of subjective experience in neuroscience and psychiatry has renewed research interest in electrophysiological biomarkers of basic symptoms.

The Drivers of Science Referenced in US EPA Regulatory Impact Analyses: Open Access, Professional Popularity, and Agency Involvement

open access: yesRegulation &Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We perform bibliometric analysis on documents for 255 Regulatory Impact Analyzes (RIAs) prepared by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from 1980 through 2024. Using a series of automated information extraction methods, we extract references from these documents and match them to bibliographic records.

Property (T) for groups acting on affine buildings

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, EarlyView.
Abstract We prove that a group acting geometrically on a thick affine building has property (T). A more general criterion for property (T) is given for groups acting on partite complexes.

An integrated platform for 2‐D and 3‐D optical and electrical mapping of arrhythmias in Langendorff‐perfused rabbit hearts

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Integrated multimodal platform for panoramic cardiac mapping in isolated heart experiments. On the left, an image of the experimental setup during data acquisition showing a Langendorff‐perfused rabbit heart surrounded by three optical cameras (CAM A, B and C) positioned 120° apart, each coupled with high‐power LEDs for panoramic
