P–Y Curves for Piles Under Seismic Lateral Loads
Geotechnical & Geological Engineering, 1998This paper describes an experimentally based procedure for building dynamic P–Y curves for clays from the Campeche sound in the Gulf of Mexico and for Mexico City clays. Cyclic triaxial and resonant column tests were used to derive hyperbolic stiffness–strain and damping–strain functions that depend on soil plasticity and on relative consistency.

Experimental p-y curves for liquefied soils from centrifuge tests
Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration, 2021The present study aims to obtain p-y curves (Winkler spring properties for lateral pile-soil interaction) for liquefied soil from 12 comprehensive centrifuge test cases where pile groups were embedded in liquefiable soil. The p-y curve for fully liquefied soil is back-calculated from the dynamic centrifuge test data using a numerical procedure from the

Uncertainty about p‐y Curves for Piles in Soft Clays
Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1986Criteria for estimating the first two probabilistic moments of the normalized parameters of p-\Iy\N curves are presented. These parameters are the ultimate soil resistance and the initial tangent value of the soil reaction which are both normalized with respect to the values predicted by an adequate mathematical expression.

Theoretical p-y Curves for Laterally Loaded Single Piles in Undrained Clay Using Bezier Curves
Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2010An alternative method was introduced for predicting the nonlinear p-y curves for monotonic unidirectional laterally loaded single piles in uniform undrained clay. On the basis of numerical studies, closed-form solutions were developed for locating the start of yield (y e ); the ultimate yield point (y u ); and the initial stiffness, K i of the p-y ...

Determination of P-Y Curves Using Inclinometer Data
Geotechnical Testing Journal, 1994Abstract Derivation of p-y curves from lateral load tests on deep foundations is a tedious and expensive task, requiring large numbers of strain gages along the length of the pile to develop bending moment versus depth relationships. A method is proposed which allows derivation of p-y curves from simple inclinometer data using a least ...

Development of p–y curves for undrained response of piles near slopes
Computers and Geotechnics, 2012Abstract The response of laterally loaded piles placed near the crest of clay slopes is analysed. Three-dimensional finite element analyses are presented for piles of different geometries, installed at several distances from slopes of various inclinations.

Lateral Pile Response and p-y Curves From Centrifuge Tests
Offshore Technology Conference, 1983ABSTRACT Cyclic lateral load tests on model pipe piles driven in inundated, saturated sand were conducted aboard the Cambridge University geotechnical centrifuge. The tests provided qualitative and quantitative data on the interaction between pile and sand.

Lateral Force–Displacement of Piles—p-y Curve
2017Many types of loading such as those induced from earthquakes, wind, ocean waves, traffic (bridges), thermal movement, water pressures (dams), and blast loads can generate lateral forces on vertical piles with a direction perpendicular to the axial direction of piles.

Prediction of P-Y curves from finite element analyses
2010The prediction of P-Y curves for undrained clay and sand based on the results of finite element analyses is presented in this thesis. A higher-ordered finite element program was used in the analyses. The ability of the program to accurately model the undrained soil condition was verified by comparing predicted load-deflection responses with closed form

Effect of excavation unloading on p-y curves for laterally loaded piles
Computers and Geotechnics, 2018Abstract Field test and numerical analysis were conducted to investigate the soil stress variation and lateral pile response to whole excavations from cone penetration tests (CPTs). The effects of excavation unloading on the performance of CPT cone resistances and p-y curves were examined. The p-y responses were related to the excavation-induced both
