Malaria (P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. malariae, P. ovale)
2010In Australia, all four human Plasmodium species are routinely detected, with cases typically arising in migrants, travellers, soldiers, and refugees [2]. Traditionally, light microscopy has been utilized in Plasmodium species detection; however, the last decade has seen the introduction of nucleic acid amplification-based diagnostic assays [5 ...

The direct antiglobulin test in P. falciparum malaria
British Journal of Haematology, 1982Summary.The direct antiglobulin test (DAT) was performed on 134 Gambian children with P. falciparum malaria. 52 children had a positive DAT and in 25 this was due to the adherence of C3 to their red cells whilst 13 had sensitization with IgG as well as C3. Sensitization with C4 alone or associated with IgG and/or C3 was only rarely found.

Hepatic changes in P. falciparum malaria.
Indian journal of malariology, 1993Liver function tests were performed in 165 hospitalized patients suffering from P. falciparum malaria with complications. Serum bilirubin was found increased in 33 patients, and 22 of them had unconjugated hyperbilirubinaemia. Serum alanine aminotransferase was increased in 5 patients, but only to mild to moderate levels. Serum alkaline phosphatase was

Comparison of a chromosomal segment of P. vivax with that of P. falciparum
P. falciparum and P. vivax are two human malaria pathogens. Although these parasites share the same hosts, they are evolutionary distant species, differing in genome composition and organisation, parasite life cycle and clinical manifestations. Genome comparison of these two species is fundamental to increase our understanding of common biological ...openaire +2 more sources
