Alkyl Bismuth Cations: Synthesis, Characterization, and Application as Z‐Type Ligands

Rare examples of alkyl bismuth cations [BiR2(SbF6)] are presented, including cyclopropyl ligands and a bismacyclic structure. The bismuth‐centered Lewis acids act as Z‐type ligands toward the electron‐rich platinum atom in [Pt(PCy3)2], generating a set of metal‐only Lewis pairs. The synthesis of a bench‐stable trifluoromethylthiolate‐substituted phosphazenium salt is reported. Variable Temperature Studies of Two Calcium Uranates α‐Ca3UO6 and Ca2UO5

The structures and thermal responses of the calcium uranates α‐Ca3UO6 and Ca2UO5 were investigated using in situ synchrotron x‐ray diffraction and neutron powder diffraction. Despite the very similar chemical compositions, the structural response of the two calcium uranates is shown to be complex and varied.

Stable Cyclic Peterson Olefination Intermediates

We present the first synthesis and characterization of several stable cyclic Peterson olefination intermediates with four carbon bonded substituents at the silicon. The cyclic 1,2‐oxasiletanide intermediates were synthesized via the reaction of an α‐silyl carbanion with various ketones.

[Ti(py)4I2] as an Entry Point to Titanium(II) Chemistry via Titanium Metal Oxidation

Chemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
A strategically novel approach based on the oxidation of Ti metal enables access to Ti(II) chemistry. Controlled formation and complexation of Ti diiodide affords the Ti(II) complex [Ti(py)4I2], which serves as a convenient entry point to Ti(II) compounds.
