The effect of global (15)N or (2)H labeling on the light-induced P700(+)/P700 FTIR difference spectra has been investigated in photosystem I samples from Synechocystis at 90 K. The small isotope-induced frequency shifts of the carbonyl modes observed in the P700(+)/P700 spectra are compared to those of isolated chlorophyll a. This comparison shows that

Stark signals associated with the reduced and oxidized states of P700 in P700-enriched particles
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 1993Abstract Quadratic Stark effect was measured in the red and near infrared spectral regions for Photosystem I particles devoid of most antenna pigments, with the chlorophyll/P700 ratio of 11. Stark spectra of reduced primary electron donor exhibit a strong band at 701 nm, corresponding to a change in permanent dipole moment Δμ = 5–5.3 D.

Abstract The organization of chlorophylls in ether-extracted Photosystem I particles from spinach, which contain 11 chlorophylls per reaction center chlorophyll P700, was studied by analysis of fluorescence at temperatures between 273 and 77 K. P700 appears to emit both prompt and delayed fluorescence, with absorption and emission peaks of P700 at ...

A TDDFT study on the excitation of P700
Chemical Physics Letters, 2007The excitation property of P700 has been studied using the time-dependent density functional method. It is found that the excitation of P700 is intrinsically asymmetric at its two Chla halves, and this asymmetry may be closely related to the relative use of two electron transfer branches.

The P700-chlorophyll a-protein of a blue-green alga
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 1971The previously isolated chlorophyll a-protein of blue-green algae has been shown to contain P700 in a ratio of 1 reaction center molecule per 100 light-harvesting chlorophyll molecules. One-fifth of the molecules in the preparation contain P700 together with some 20 light-harvesting molecules, whereas the other molecules contain bulk chlorophyll only ...

A flavin-chlorophyll a complex resembling the P700 of photosynthesis
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1969Abstract A model molecular complex of chlorophyll a and FMN is found to have properties resembling the P700 of photosynthesis. The model complex shows an absorption maximum near 700 nm which can be bleached reversibly by light. ESR studies show that the photobleaching is accompanied by light-driven electron transfer from the chlorophyll a to the ...

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the procedure for P700 detection. The pigment designated P700 is the photoreactive center of photosystem I and as such is an obligate component in the overall photochemical transport of electrons from an appropriate donor to NADP.

Light-induced reactions of ferredoxin and P700 at low temperatures
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 1974Abstract Absorbance difference spectra and kinetics of the photooxidation of the primary electron donor of System 1 of photosynthesis, P700, were measured at low temperatures in spinach chloroplasts and in intact cells of Chlorella vulgaris, Porphyridium aerugineum and Anacystis nidulans , and the redox state of P700 was compared with that of ...

Experimental determination of the molar differential extinction coefficient of P700
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 1971Abstract The molar differential extinction coefficients of P700 at 435 and 703 nm have been determined by using a directly coupled reaction in the dark involving the reduction of photooxidized P700 and the oxidation of reduced cytochromes. From the coupled oxidation of mammalian cytochrome c by Anabaena high-P700 particles, the molar differential ...

[47] Detection and isolation of P700
1971Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the detection and isolation of P700. The pigment designated P700 has been detected in all normal photosynthetic algae and green plants studied. It occurs in small concentrations (1/200–1/1000) relative to the bulk chlorophyll(s) and is characterized by absorption bands around 430 and 700 nm.
