Single‐cell RNA‐sequencing and spatial transcriptomic analysis reveal a distinct population of APOE− cells yielding pathological lymph node metastasis in papillary thyroid cancer

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 1, January 2025.
We identified a subpopulation of tumor cells with lower expression levels of APOE in both mRNAs and proteins that were highly associated with more advanced stages and metastasis of PTC by integrating single‐cell sequencing and spatial transcriptome assays.

An iterated greedy algorithm with variable reconstruction size for the obnoxious p‐median problem

open access: yesInternational Transactions in Operational Research, Volume 32, Issue 1, Page 144-175, January 2025.
Abstract The obnoxious p$p$‐median problem is a facility location problem where we maximise the sum of the distances between each client point and its nearest facility. Since it is nondeterministic polynomial‐time (NP)‐hard, most algorithms designed for the problem follow metaheuristic strategies to find high‐quality solutions in affordable time but ...

Combining Data Visualization and Interactive Narrative: A Persuasive Approach to Raise Climate Change Awareness

open access: yesHuman Behavior and Emerging Technologies, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Climate change is a global phenomenon that affects every living being on our planet. Raising awareness among people about climate change and helping them realize the possible consequences of their actions is key to mitigating climate change problems.

Maize insensitivity to culture filtrates from Exserohilum turcicum is related to quantitative resistance

open access: yesJournal of Phytopathology, Volume 172, Issue 4, July/August 2024.
Abstract Turcicum leaf blight (TLB) of maize is caused by Exserohilum turcicum. The TLB resistance is mainly associated with qualitative race‐specific resistance that is linked to several Ht genes namely Ht1, Ht2, Ht3, HtM, HtN, HtNB and HtP. However, quantitative TLB resistance also occurs, but its mechanisms are poorly understood.

Photovoice: An active learning tool with community nursing students

open access: yesPublic Health Nursing, Volume 41, Issue 3, Page 392-402, May/June 2024.
Abstract Objective To assess nursing students’ experiences of using photovoice as a pedagogical approach to active learning in the community. Methods A descriptive design with a cross‐sectional mixed‐method questionnaire was used with 108 students following an educational activity, in which their communities were photographed and the impact of the ...

A 96 GeV Higgs boson in the N2HDM [PDF]

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal C, 2019
We discuss a $$\sim 3\,\sigma $$∼3σ signal (local) in the light Higgs-boson search in the diphoton decay mode at $$\sim 96 \,\, \mathrm {GeV}$$∼96GeV as reported by CMS, together with a $$\sim 2\,\sigma $$∼2σ excess (local) in the $$b {{\bar{b}}}$$bb ...

Chuck versus the ratings: Savvy fans and "save our show" campaigns

open access: yesTransformative Works and Cultures, 2014
Fans rarely have the opportunity to affect the production of their favorite television shows, but sometimes they can save them. "Save our show" campaigns provide an example of fan labor that can influence the decision to renew or cancel a show.

Data-driven predictions of a multiscale Lorenz 96 chaotic system using machine-learning methods: reservoir computing, artificial neural network, and long short-term memory network

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 2019
. In this paper, the performance of three machine-learning methods for predicting short-term evolution and for reproducing the long-term statistics of a multiscale spatiotemporal Lorenz 96 system is examined.
