Abstract Two algorithms are presented for the detection of P-waves in ECG's. The method is in principle lead-independent. The first routine for the finding of coupled P-waves makes use of the stability of PR-intervals. The second one, for the detection of noncoupled P's, computes the cross-correlation between a ternary detection signal, derived from ...

Abstract Accurate use of the P wave in electrocardiographic measurernent and in electrocardiographic timing of physiologic events requires prior study in each individual to determine the lead with the maximal P wave duration. Magnification of electrocardiographic waves is useful to determine their duration.

Studies in P wave synchronization
The American Journal of Cardiology, 1967Abstract The results of P wave synchronization in man employing a bipolar atrial and a bipolar ventricular catheter have been presented. As the P-ventricular stimulus interval is increased, a ventricular rhythm with retrograde P waves and a re-entry mechanism was found.

Scenario: The following ECG waveform was obtained in an 85-year-old male patient admitted to the telemetry unit for evaluation of syncope. His pertinent medical history includes hypertension, coronary artery disease, and prior inferior/lateral myocardial infarction (MI).

As already stated in Part 1, clinical interpretation of the electrocardiogram begins with the study of the P wave.

P Wave in the Electrocardiogram of the Horse
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1970SUMMARY Orthogonal electrocardiograms, using the McFee axial reference system, were obtained from fifty 2-year-old Thoroughbred horses. The bifid P waves were analyzed for duration and peak amplitude of initial (I) and terminal (II) components and for orientation and spatial magnitude (sM) of peak vectors.

P waves with a "dome and dart" configuration have been observed in patients with congenital and acquired heart disease while having arrhythmias of left atrial origin. This report describes a patient who has dome and dart P waves that appear to be neither ectopic nor associated with structural heart disease.
