Tectono‐Stratigraphic Evolution of the Foreland Fold‐and‐Thrust Belt of the United Arab Emirates

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 41, Issue 9, September 2022., 2022
Abstract The subsurface and surface structural geometries of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) fold‐and‐thrust belt (FTB) and foreland basins are interpreted from seismic, well data, and surface geology. Twelve horizons ranging in age from Miocene to Lower Jurassic were interpreted and mapped.

Organic geochemistry of Paleogene Pabdeh Formation in northern Dezful embayment, Zagros, SW Iran

open access: yesBoletín de la Sociedad Geológica Mexicana, 2022
In this paper, the organic geochemistry of Upper Eocene-Oligocene Pabdeh Formation, in northern Dezful Embayment, SW Iran, was studied using combination of geochemical measurements including Rock-Eval pyrolysis, Gas Chromatography and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. A total of 14 shale samples of Pabdeh Formation were obtained from 14 wells in 11

Eocene to Oligocene nannofossils stratigraphy and environmental conditions in Izeh Province, Zagros Basin, East Tethys

open access: yesJournal of Palaeogeography, 2021
Data obtained from the calcareous nannofossils, distributed in the upper part of the Pabdeh Formation (Priabonian–Rupelian) and the lower part of the Asmari Formation (Chattian) in the Bid-Zard section, were used to investigate the Eocene to Oligocene ...

Microfacies and Sedimentary Environments of Gurpi and Pabdeh Formations in Southwest of Iran [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Applied Sciences, 2009
Problem statement: The Upper Cretaceous Gurpi and lower Tertiary Pabdeh formations as units of folded Zagros Zone were studied in three different regions (Tang-e-Abolhiat, Tang-e-Zanjiran and Maharloo) in Fars Province, Iran. Approach: Gurpi formation consisted of thin to medium sized layers of gray marl and marlstone interbedded with thin layers of ...

Study of water-level fluctuations throughout the deposition of the Gurpi Formation based on palynological data in the west of Dehrolan, south of Ilam [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Stratigraphy and Sedimentology Researches, 2020
To analyze the sedimentary palaeoenvironment of the Gurpi Formation in Bisheh–Deraz section in south of Ilam, various factors including diversity and abundance of dinocysts, a ratio of Peridinioid to Gonyaulacoid (P/G) dinoflagellate cysts, palynofacies ...

Foreland Flexure and Lower Crustal Flow as Controls on Cenozoic Subsidence Anomalies in the Zengmu (Sarawak) Basin, South China Sea

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 45, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract While the evolution of individual passive marginal and foreland basins is well understood, the subsidence pattern of passive margins near convergence zones—where thrust loading overprints earlier extension and the typical wedge and foredeep are obscured—remains poorly understood.

Geometry and Kinematics of the Hormuz Salt at Jebel Al Dhanna, United Arab Emirates: Implications for Salt Tectonics and Subsurface Storage

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 44, Issue 11, November 2025.
Abstract The United Arab Emirates government is assessing the potential of Hormuz Salt domes for subsurface storage, aligning with the transition toward clean energy systems and carbon reduction goals. However, the geometry, kinematics, and halokinetic evolution of these salt structures remain poorly constrained.

Flexural Development in the Foreland Basin Adjacent to Northern Oman‐UAE Mountain Belt: Effect of Lithospheric Weakening

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 44, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Inception of obduction is a rare phenomenon in the Wilson cycle and requires specific prerequisites to transfer relatively high‐density oceanic lithosphere over the less‐dense continental lithosphere. The world's famous Semail ophiolite belt developed during the Late Cretaceous, when Neo‐Tethyan oceanic lithosphere obducted onto the rifted ...
