Opportunities for the conservation of migratory birds to benefit threatened resident vertebrates in the Neotropics. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Appl Ecol, 2022
Funding and effort for migratory bird conservation also has potential to benefit threatened resident vertebrates in the Neotropics. Our study highlights how novel, high‐resolution information on species distributions and risk of forest loss can be integrated to identify priority areas for the two groups at regional and landscape scales.

Combining otolith chemistry and genetics to infer the population structure of yellow snapper Lutjanus argentiventris

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2023., 2023
Abstract Developing a metapopulation framework contributes to the understanding of spatial processes and structures in populations, providing basic information for conservation biology. However, the extent to which the metapopulation structure differs geographically and across life history stages is unexplored for most fishes.

Testing identifying assumptions in fuzzy regression discontinuity designs

open access: yesQuantitative Economics, Volume 13, Issue 1, Page 1-28, January 2022., 2022
We propose a new specification test for assessing the validity of fuzzy regression discontinuity designs (FRD‐validity). We derive a new set of testable implications, characterized by a set of inequality restrictions on the joint distribution of observed outcomes and treatment status at the cut‐off.

Conservation priorities for functionally unique and specialized terrestrial vertebrates threatened by biological invasions. [PDF]

open access: yesConserv Biol
Abstract Invasive non‐native species (INS) continue to pose a significant threat to biodiversity, including native population declines, which can ultimately disrupt ecosystem processes. Although there is growing evidence of the impacts of INS on functional diversity, most of the existing approaches to prioritization of species for conservation still ...

A Low‐Order Data‐Driven Model of ENSO Diversity

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 24, 28 December 2025.
Abstract Linear Inverse Models (LIMs) are widely used data‐driven tools for studying El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO). However, standard LIMs struggle to simulate the observed asymmetry and diversity of ENSO events. Observations reveal that strong Central Pacific (CP) La Niñas and extreme Eastern Pacific (EP) El Niños occur more frequently than ...

Growth, movement, and attrition of northern bluefin tuna, Thunnus thynnus, in the Pacific Ocean, as determined by tagging [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
ENGLISH: The growth of northern bluefin tuna is described by a two-stanza model. For fish between 191 and 564 mm in length the Gompertz curve, with values of 581 mm and 4.32 for Loo and K (annual), respectively, is used.

Southwest migration of the instantaneous Rivera-Pacific Euler pole since 0.78 Ma

The far side of capitalism: Institutions and trade financing in Manila during the long eighteenth century

open access: yesThe Economic History Review, Volume 78, Issue 4, Page 1068-1087, November 2025.
Abstract Sustained long‐distance trade in the early modern era necessitated institutional mechanisms capable of solving three interrelated challenges: the need to mobilize an unprecedented volume of capital and to lock it in for long periods of time, ways of mitigating the principal–agent problem across continents, and methods to internalize and ...

A review of the population structure of yellowfin tuna, Thunnus albacares, in the Eastern Pacific Ocean [PDF]

open access: yes, 1964
ENGLISH: Since its inception in 1950 by agreement between the Republic of Costa Rica and the United States of America, the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission has been engaged in studies of the biology, ecology and population dynamics of yellowfin ...
