Análisis cladístico del género Pachycereus (Cactaceae) con caracteres morfológicos

Brittonia, 2006
Abstract The genus Pachycereus is restricted to Guatemala, Mexico, and the SW United States and includes 13 species according to the most recent classification. A phylogenetic analysis was conducted in order to test the monophyly of Pachycereus with respect to other genera of subtribe Pachycereinae.

Peroxidase Activity in the Xerophytic «Cardon» (Pachycereus pringlei), a Cactaceae of the Sonoran Desert of Mexico

Journal of Plant Physiology, 1993
Summary Several isoperoxidase activities (EC 1.11.1.7. donor: H 2 O 2 oxidoreductase) were detected in branch extracts of the cardon cactus ( Pachycereus pringlei ) of the Sonoran Desert, Mexico. The whole enzyme activity in the crude extract was separated into several anionic and cationic isoenzymes.

Wood biomechanics and anatomy of PACHYCEREUS PRINGLEI

American Journal of Botany, 2000
We report the longitudinal, biomechanical, and anatomical trends observed for tissue samples drawn from the parallel aligned, prismatic woody vascular bundles running the length of a Pachycereus pringlei plant measuring 5.22 m in height. The main vertical stem of this plant was cut into five segments (labeled A through E in the acropetal direction ...

The biomechanics of Pachycereus pringlei root systems

American Journal of Botany, 2002
We report on the root system of the large columnar cactus species Pachycereus pringlei to explore the hypothesis that increasing plant size decreases the ability to resist wind‐throw but increases the capacity to absorb and store nutrients in roots (i.e., plant size limits the performance of these functions and may shift the performance of one function

Behavior and characterization of Moneilema variolare (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), a new pest to Pachycereus marginatus

Phytoparasitica, 2021
This study was conducted to elucidate the identification of Moneilema variolare Thomson, 1867, as a new pest to Pachycereus marginatus (DC.) Britton & Rose. Behavior, identification, and damages were investigated for 3 years. Adults emerged from pupal chamber in late winter, and fed on Pachycereus stems.

Taxonomic Revision of Pachycereus (Cactaceae)

Systematic Botany, 2009
A comprehensive taxonomic revision of the genus Pachycereus (Cactaceae, Cactoideae, Pachycereeae) is presented. Pachycereus is characterized by one synapomorphic character, the presence of a narrow interareolar groove, and by the combination of flowering region differentiated with flexible spines, flower with a narrow region between the pericarpel and

Flower orientation in Pachycereus pringlei

Canadian Journal of Botany, 2000
The orientation of flowers in columnar cacti has been a subject of great interest to plant biologists. The interpretation of this pattern has invoked warmer temperatures as the underlying factor. In this paper, we describe flower orientation in two populations of Pachycereus pringlei (S.
