Nesting ecology of an ice‐associated seabird, Kittlitz's murrelet, at the northern edge of its range

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, EarlyView.
We studied the Kittlitz's murrelet, an ice‐associated seabird of conservation concern, at the northern edge of its range. Over a 2‐year period, we estimated nest density and success at 2 sites, captured and telemetered nesting murrelets, and tested the use of a thermal camera to improve nest detection.

Acute heat tolerance (CTmax) of two invasive parasitic copepods differs across species, life cycle stages and acclimation temperatures

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of heatwaves with potential consequences for host–parasite dynamics. While the acute heat tolerance of free‐living organisms has been intensively studied, much less is known about it for parasites and their life ...

Transcriptional breakpoints as predictors of thermal thresholds in a climate‐impacted stenothermal fish

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The biogeography of ectotherms is greatly influenced by their thermal tolerance, which is expected to be tightly coupled to aerobic performance. However, preferred temperatures of ectotherms often deviate substantially from aerobic performance optima. This suggests that
