Distribution and Use of Shallow-Water Habitats by Pacific Sand Lances in Southeastern Alaska
Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 2008Abstract The Pacific sand lance Ammodytes hexapterus is an important prey species, but little is known about its distribution and habitat use, especially among early life stages in southeastern Alaska. To address this information need, we examined the distribution and habitat use of Pacific sand lances by sampling a variety of shallow-

Acoustic sea bed classification of Pacific Sand Lance habitat.
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2011This paper describes the results of preliminary acoustic sea bed classification surveys in three areas in the southern Gulf Islands of British Columbia to develop methods for mapping habitat of Pacific Sand Lance (PSL). Little is known about this important species, and much less is known about their use of subtidal burying habitat for overwintering ...

The Pacific Sand Lance (Ammodytes personatus) is a major component of the forage base for many species of marine birds, mammals, and fishes. Despite its ecological importance, relatively little is known regarding basic biology or life-history parameters for this species.

Sediment preferences and oil contamination in the Pacific sand lance Ammodytes hexapterus
Marine Biology, 1984Sand lance, Ammodytes hexapterus Pallas, forage for zooplankton in the water column and are under heavy predation from fish, marine birds and marine mammals. To avoid predation, these fish bury themselves in soft bottom sediments when not foraging and during overwintering. We collected sand lance in Sequim Bay, Washington State, USA, in 1982.

An analysis of the variability of 34 sequences of the 5′-region of the Co-1 mitochondrial gene fish of the genus Ammodytes has been performed taking the precise geographic location into account. Among them, seven sequences are original data and 27 were retrieved from the GenBank.

First records of Pacific sand lance (Ammodytes hexapterus) in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago
Polar Biology, 2017An increasing number of boreal marine species are expected to invade the warming Arctic Ocean with the potential to displace endemic species. We provide first evidence that Pacific sand lance (Ammodytes hexapterus) is expanding its range in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, a region far outside the species temperate-boreal traditional range south of the

Abstract We modeled habitat selection by Pacific sand lance (Ammodytes hexapterus) by examining their distribution in relation to water depth, distance to shore, bottom slope, bottom type, distance from sand bottom, and shoreline type. Through both logistic regression and classification tree models, we compared the characteristics of 29 known sand ...

Abstract The Pacific Sand Lance (Ammodytes hexapterus) is an important Pacific Northwest prey species for marine predators. In our study along the West Coast Trail, southwestern Vancouver Island, British Columbia, we examined shallow subtidal habitat selection of juvenile and adult Sand Lance with respect to sediment characteristics, and also examined ...

Abstract Viral hemorrhagic septicemia (VHS) and the associated virus (VHSV) were identified in newly metamorphosed Pacific herring Clupea pallasi and Pacific sand lances Ammodytes hexapterus captured from Puget Sound, Washington, between 1995 and 1998. During that 4-year period, virus was detected in less than 1% of free-ranging, age-0 Pacific herring;
