Codeposition of Elements in Diffusion Coatings by the Halide-Activated Pack Cementation Method

Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 1991
Abstract : The codeposition of two or more elements in a halide-activated cementation pack is inherently difficult because of large differences in the thermodynamic stabilities for their volatile halides. However, through a computer-assisted analysis of the pack equilibria, combinations of suitable masteralloys and activator salts can be identified ...

Boron–aluminide coatings applied by pack cementation method on low-alloy steels

Materials Letters, 2002
Abstract A simultaneous one-step boroaluminizing process has been performed on a 2.25Cr–Mo steel by means of pack cementation method using a B/Al boriding powder. Three distinct regions were found in the coatings consisting of an outer Al-rich layer, a transition region containing Al and Fe and an inner layer containing mostly B and Fe.

Silicon Diffusion in Silicide Coatings Deposition by the Pack Cementation Method on AISI D2 Tool Steel

Silicon, 2021
In the current research, pack cementation method for deposition of silicide on the AISI D2 steel has been investigated. The chemical, phase composition of coatings and microstructure, were evaluated by EDS, SEM, EDS line scan and XRD techniques. Based on the results, FeSi2 phase and Fe2Si, FeSi on the surface of the deeper parts of the coatings and ...

New manufacturing method for Fe-Si magnetic powders using modified pack-cementation process

Metals and Materials International, 2013
This paper describes a new method for making Fe-Si magnetic powders using a pack-cementation process. It was found that Fe-Si alloy powders were formed by a reaction of the pack mixture of Fe, Si, NaF, and Al2O3 powders at 900 °C for 24 h under a hydrogen atmosphere.

The kinetics of multilayered titanium-silicide coatings grown by the pack cementation method

Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 1995
The halide-activated, pack cementation coating method is a viable technique for forming silicide diffusion coatings that provide oxidation resistance for titanium alloys at high temperature. In this study, growth rates were determined for the five-layered silicide coatings on commercially pure titanium grown at 950 ‡C, 1050 ‡C, and 1150 ‡C using three ...

Preparation of tritium permeation barrier consisting of titanium by the pack cementation method

Surface and Coatings Technology, 2016
Abstract In this work, tritium permeation barriers were prepared on the surface of super-clean reduced activation martensitic (SCRAM) steel by the pack cementation method. The pack cementation process was conducted by packing samples in a powder mixture consisting of titanium, ammonium chloride and alumina powder at 1000 °C for 30 min to form a ...

A study of aluminide coatings on TiAl alloys by the pack cementation method

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2003
Abstract The lower case halide-activated pack cementation method was utilized to deposit aluminide coatings on TiAl alloys. Emphasis was placed on the effect of alloying elements on the aluminizing behavior of TiAl alloy. The addition of a small amount of Nb or Cr in the TiAl improved significantly the aluminizing kinetics of TiAl alloys by ...

Influence of gradation of aggregates using particle packing methods on strength and microstructure of blended cement mortars

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2022
Abstract Blended cements having partial replacement of fly ash (FA) and granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS) with Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) have proven to be more sustainable cements with several ecological benefits, increased performance and durability aspects compared to plain OPC.

The codeposition of elements in diffusion coatings by the pack cementation method

Materials at High Temperatures, 1993
Because of the advantageous synergistic effects of two alloying elements such as Cr and Al, or Cr and Si, in minimizing the oxidation and corrosion of steels at high temperatures, it would be beneficial to codeposit two elements into diffusion coatings at the alloy surface.
