Bayesian packet loss detection for TCP

Proceedings IEEE 24th Annual Joint Conference of the IEEE Computer and Communications Societies., 2005
One of TCP's critical tasks is to determine which packets are lost in the network, as a basis for control actions (flow control and packet retransmission). Modern TCP implementations use two mechanisms: timeout, and fast retransmit. Detection via timeout is necessarily a time-consuming operation; fast retransmit, while much quicker, is only effective ...

Packet Loss Differentiation Using Network Layer Packet Redundancy in Optical Packet/Burst Switched Networks

GLOBECOM 2009 - 2009 IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference, 2009
Optical Packet/Burst Switching (OPS/OBS) has emerged as a promising candidate for the next-generation all-optical network scenario. A crucial issue in OPS/OBS networks is how to provide packet loss rate (PLR) differentiation at the network layer. In this paper we propose a novel PLR differentiation scheme that utilizes network layer packet redundancy ...

Reducing packet loss in Mobile IPv6

14th International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (ICCIT 2011), 2011
In Mobile IPv6, a Mobile Node directly updates its current location information to a Correspondent Node using a route optimization method. Route optimization method helps to culminate the packet delay incurred due to suboptimal route traversed by the packets from a Correspondent Node to a Mobile Node in Mobile IPv4. However, it introduces packet losses

Modeling Packet Losses in Communication Networks

2019 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT), 2019
An approach to constructing discrete models of packet losses suitable for a wide variety of communication network applications is studied. It is based on estimating parameters of probabilistic automata described via so-called pseudo-Markov chains. The new technique is applied both to approximating a discrete time analog process at the output of known ...

Packet Loss Analysis in Mobile IP

2004
Packet loss and packet disorder are two important factors which badly affect handoff performance of Mobile IP. In this paper, we study their probabilities in the case of cell overlap and no overlap, and use these results to optimize the radius of overlap region. In addition, some illustrations show that our model conforms to our observation perfectly.
