Paler within the city: Carotenoid‐based colouration covaries negatively with the proportion of impervious surface in great tit (Parus major) territories across Europe

Across six European cities, great tits in more impervious territories had paler carotenoid‐based plumage, but not lower brightness or UV chroma. This suggests that urban habitat imperviousness is associated specifically with lower carotenoid pigment deposition, rather than broad changes in feather reflectance or structural quality.
