Real‐time assay of ribonucleotide reductase activity with a fluorescent RNA aptamer
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) synthesize DNA building blocks de novo, making them crucial in DNA replication and drug targeting. FLARE introduces the first single‐tube real‐time coupled RNR assay, which enables isothermal tracking of RNR activity at nanomolar enzyme levels and allows the reconstruction of allosteric regulatory patterns and rapid ...

Permeability Measurement of Graphite Compression Packings
In this work, we address the issue of the sealing performance of ring-shape valve compression packings. Our analysis is focused on the characterization of the permeability of the rings made of die-formed exfoliated graphite. Because of the tight character of the material, significant Klinkenberg effects are expected.

Spectral Imaging to Measure Heterogeneity in Membrane Lipid Packing [PDF]
AbstractPhysicochemical properties of the plasma membrane have been shown to play an important role in cellular functionality. Among those properties, the molecular order of the lipids, or the lipid packing, is of high importance. Changes in lipid packing are believed to compartmentalize cellular signaling by initiating coalescence and conformational ...

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

Multifractal Structure of Irregular Sets via Weighted Random Sequences
We study the multifractal structure of irregular sets arising from Fibonacci-weighted sums of sequences of random variables. Focusing on Cantor-type subsets Kε of the unit interval, we construct sequences of free and forced blocks, where the free blocks ...

Wall wipers are commonly used in columns filled with structured packings in order to reduce the liquid flow along the column walls. In small diameter columns wall regions are prominent and wall flow, if not well tended to, can adversely affect measured ...

Local structure-mobility relationships of confined fluids reverse upon supercooling
We examine the structural and dynamic properties of confined binary hard-sphere mixtures designed to mimic realizable colloidal thin films. Using computer simulations, governed by either Newtonian or overdamped Langevin dynamics, together with other ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...
