Bacterial community analysis on the Mediaeval stained glass window "Natività" in the Florence Cathedral [PDF]
Microbial corrosion of glass causes problems on delicates antique glass samples. Until now, the effect of microbial activity on corrosion phenomena has not been well documented.

Paenibacillus shenyangensis and Paenibacillus dauci are Gram-stain-positive, rod-shaped and endospore-forming bacteria originally isolated from soil and carrot samples, respectively, in China. Preliminary comparative genomic analysis showed that these bacteria could constitute a single species.

Examination of a culturable microbial population from the gastrointestinal tract of the wood-eating loricariid catfish Panaque nigrolineatus [PDF]
Fish play a critical role in nutrient cycling and organic matter flow in aquatic environments. However, little is known about the microbial diversity within the gastrointestinal tracts that may be essential in these degradation activities.

AbstractHoney bee colonies contain thousands of individuals living in close proximity in a thermally homeostatic nest, creating ideal conditions for the thriving of numerous pathogens. Among the bacterial pathogens,Paenibacillus larvaeinfects larvae via the nutritive jelly that adult workers feed them, causing the highly contagious American foulbrood ...

Rhodococcus aetherivorans BCP1 as cell factory for the production of intracellular tellurium nanorods under aerobic conditions [PDF]
Background: Tellurite (TeO32-) is recognized as a toxic oxyanion to living organisms. However, mainly anaerobic or facultative-anaerobic microorganisms are able to tolerate and convert TeO32- into the less toxic and available form of elemental Tellurium (

Characterization of Hexenuronosyl Xylan-degrading Enzymes Produced by Paenibacillus sp. 07
The enzyme involved in hexenuronic acid (HexA) removal from kraft pulp was identified in Paenibacillus sp. strain 07. Extracellular and intracellular enzymes of Paenibacillus sp. were assessed for their hexenuronosyl-xylotriose (∆X3) degradation activity.

Relationship between antibiotic- and disinfectant-resistance profiles in bacteria harvested from tap water [PDF]
Chlorination is commonly used to control levels of bacteria in drinking water; however, viable bacteria may remain due to chlorine resistance. What may be concerning is that surviving bacteria, due to co-selection factors, may also have increased ...
