Optimal concentration of organic solvents to be used in the broth microdilution method to determine the antimicrobial activity of natural products against Paenibacillus larvae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
American Foulbrood (AFB) is a bacterial disease, caused by Paenibacillus larvae, that affects honeybees (Apis mellifera). Alternative strategies to control AFB are based on the treatment of the beehives with antimicrobial natural substances such as ...

Insights on Anabaena sp. PCC 7120 Responses to HCH Isomers: Tolerance, Degradation, and Dynamics on Potential lin Genes Expression

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 14, Issue 6, December 2025.
This study investigates the physiological responses of Anabaena sp. PCC 7120 to HCH isomers, emphasizing both its tolerance to these compounds and its ability to biodegrade them. The findings support the potential application of Anabaena in the bioremediation of environments contaminated with specific HCH isomers.

Paenibacillus silagei sp. nov. isolated from corn silage

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2016
A Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, endospore-forming bacterium, strain LOOC204T, was isolated from corn silage that had been prepared and stored in Hokkaido, Japan. The isolate grew well at 4-37 °C and at pH 6.0-8.5. The major cellular fatty acids were anteiso-C15 : 0, C16 : 0, iso-C14 : 0 and iso-C16 : 0.

MICP mediated by indigenous bacteria isolated from tailings for biocementation for reduction of wind erosion

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology
In this study, native ureolytic bacteria were isolated from copper tailings soils to perform microbial-induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) tests and evaluate their potential for biocement formation and their contribution to reduce the dispersion of ...

Nonribosomal peptides, key biocontrol components for Pseudomonas fluorescens In5, isolated from a Greenlandic suppressive soil. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
UnlabelledPotatoes are cultivated in southwest Greenland without the use of pesticides and with limited crop rotation. Despite the fact that plant-pathogenic fungi are present, no severe-disease outbreaks have yet been observed.

Rhodococcus aetherivorans BCP1 as cell factory for the production of intracellular tellurium nanorods under aerobic conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Tellurite (TeO32-) is recognized as a toxic oxyanion to living organisms. However, mainly anaerobic or facultative-anaerobic microorganisms are able to tolerate and convert TeO32- into the less toxic and available form of elemental Tellurium (

Potential of Subterranean Microbes: High‐Throughput Screening for Industrially Relevant Enzymatic Activities in Dinaric Caves

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 14, Issue 6, December 2025.
Microbial communities from seven Dinaric cave ecosystems were surveyed for their laccase, urethanase, and protease enzymatic activities. The findings suggested potential applications in bioremediation, the biodegradation of synthetic polymers, and industrial biotechnology, highlighting the importance of biodiversity conservation.

Paenibacillus gyeongsangnamensis sp. nov., Isolated from Soil

open access: yesJournal of Microbiology and Biotechnology
A Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, white-coloured, rod-shaped bacteria, designated as a strain dW9T, was isolated from soil. Strain dW9T was catalase-positive and oxidase-negative. Strain dW9T grew at temperature of 20-37°C and at pH of 5.0-7.0. Phylogenetic and 16S rRNA gene analysis indicated that strain dW9T belonged to the genus Paenibacillus with its

Noncontiguous finished genome sequence and description of Paenibacillus antibioticophila sp. nov. GD11T, the type strain of Paenibacillus antibioticophila

open access: yesNew Microbes and New Infections, 2015
Paenibacillus antibioticophila strain GD11T sp. nov. is the type strain of a new species within the genus Paenibacillus. This strain, whose genome is described here, was isolated from human faeces of a 63-year-old woman with multidrug-resistant ...
