Hermit crabs from Brazil. Family Paguridae (Crustacea: Decapoda: Paguroidea): Genus Pagurus
Zootaxa, 2007In Brazil, the hermit crab family Paguridae is represented by 11 genera, of which the genus Pagurus is the most speciose, with seven species that occur from the intertidal zone to shallow waters and one from deeper regions. In this paper we present the diagnosis, distribution and some remarks on each species of the genus Pagurus known from Brazil.

A new hermit crab (Anomura, Paguroidea) from the upper Albian (Cretaceous) of Annopol, Poland
Zootaxa, 2015A new diogenid paguroid, Paguristes liwinskii sp. nov., is described from upper Albian phosphorite-bearing deposits near Annopol, along the east bank of the River Vistula (Wisła), east-central Poland. This new species constitutes an additional example of Early–Mid-Cretaceous macrofaunal shift, from marine reefal limestone to siliciclastic facies ...

We describe three new species of hermit crab of the pagurid genera, Catapagurus A. Milne-Edwards, 1880, Nematopagurus A. Milne-Edwards & Bouvier, 1892 and Pagurixus Melin, 1939, on the basis of material collected during the scientific cruise to the Northern Mariana Islands conducted by the U.S. National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (

Hermit and Stone Crabs (Paguroidea)
1997Hermit crabs described in this book belong to the families Diogenidae and Paguridae. Their abdomens are soft, spirally curled, and usually concealed within empty gastropod shells held in place by the uropods (ur, fig. 1.3, A), braced againts the shell‚s internal wall. By comparison, the abdomen of Stone Crabs (family Lithodidae) is loosely held beneath

Two species of Paguristes Dana, 1851 occurring in New Zealand waters, P. pilosus H. Milne Edwards, 1836 and P. setosus H. Milne Edwards, 1848, were the sources of errors and considerable confusion for many years. The misunderstanding regarding the identities of these taxa was further compounded by Filhol (1885) when he published a description of P ...

Ultrastructure of the Spermatophore Lateral Ridge in Hermit Crabs (Decapoda, Anomura, Paguroidea)
2023The pedunculate spermatophore is characteristic of the Anomura, and the Paguroidea in particular. It has a sperm-filled ampulla which is composed of two valves joined at a conspicuous lateral ridge. This lateral ridge is a thickening of the spermatophore wall but also a discontinuity between the wall morphology of each valve.

Activities of two British species ofPagurus(Crustacea, Decapoda, Paguroidea)
Marine Behaviour and Physiology, 1973Two series of experiments were conducted to investigate the activities of two British species of hermit crab, Pagurus bernhardus (L.) and Pagurus prideauxi Leach. The first series showed that P. bernhardus was more active during day than night whereas the opposite was true of P. prideauxi.
