PAHs and Astrobiology [PDF]

open access: yesEAS Publications Series, 2011
In dense molecular clouds, the birthplace of stars and planets, interstellar atoms and molecules freeze onto extremely cold dust and ice particles. These ices are processed by ultraviolet light and cosmic rays forming hundreds of far more complex species, some of astrobiological interest.

Type and Potential Sources of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Coastal Area of Tarakan City, North Borneo, Indonesia

open access: yesIlmu Kelautan, 2021
PAHs are mutagenic and carcinogenic agents that influence the coastal water of Tarakan City. This study aims to determine the concentration, type, and distribution of PAHs in waters and sediments of rivers, seawater, and brackish ponds, and their ...

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in air and vegetation: case study at three selected toll stations along North South Expressway in Johor, Malaysia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from vehicular emission are products of the incomplete combustion of organic fuel, and are usually attached to the particulate matter from the emission and can caused pollution and hazard to human health due to

Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

Chemical Composition of PM2.5 and PM10 and Associated Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons at a Roadside and an Urban Background Area in Saitama, Japan

open access: yesAsian Journal of Atmospheric Environment, 2008
The chemical compositions of PM2.5 and PM10 and associated high-molecular-weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were investigated during winter and summer at a roadside and an urban background site in Saitama, Japan.

Stabilization of Miscible Aqueous Phases via Diffusion‐Controlled Multifunctional Nanoparticle‐Ligand Complexation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a versatile approach to harnessing miscible aqueous domains, enabling liquid‐in‐liquid compartmentalization using a barrier formed in situ rather than bulk immiscibility. The barrier forms upon the complexation of multifunctional nanoparticles and ligands at the contact boundary of aqueous phases.

Effects of root exudates on the sorption of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons onto biochar

open access: yesEnvironmental Pollutants & Bioavailability, 2019
The effect of oxalic acid on phenanthrene sorption was varied from that on pyrene sorption. 1.0 mg L-1 of oxalic acid inhibited phenanthrene sorption, whereas 20, 50 and 100 mg L-1 of oxalic acid enhanced the sorption.
