STAL: Spike Threshold Adaptive Learning Encoder for Classification of Pain-Related Biosignal Data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
This paper presents the first application of spiking neural networks (SNNs) for the classification of chronic lower back pain (CLBP) using the EmoPain dataset. Our work has two main contributions. We introduce Spike Threshold Adaptive Learning (STAL), a trainable encoder that effectively converts continuous biosignals into spike trains.

低強度の下肢ぺダリング運動がストレス感受性と疼痛閾値に与える影響 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This study conducted a comparative assessment of the effects of low intensity lower limb pedaling exercise on the stress sensitivity and pain threshold in healthy subjects and those with chronic stiff neck or lower back pain.

Effect of types and anatomical arrangement of painful stimuli on conditioned pain modulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Reduced pain perception during painful stimulation to another body region (ie, conditioned pain modulation [CPM]) is considered important for pain modulation and development of pain disorders.

Multi‐Scale Modeling of a 3D Soft Magnetoelectric Patch for Wireless Nerve Stimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Core‐shell, magnetoelectric nanoparticles (MENPs) can serve as wireless electric nano‐sources, thanks to their ability to generate high levels of electricity, when stimulated by a human‐safe external magnetic field. By combining MENPs with soft, biocompatible polymeric matrices and optimizing its composite configuration and electrical behavior via ...

Does It Hurt? Depends on Who's Asking

open access: yesPsychological Topics, 2019
The aim of this paper is to determine whether experimenter's professional status (Study 1) and familiarity (Study 2) affect participant's pain assessment, even when there are no other differences in the experimenter's characteristics.

Physiological and behavioral profiling for nociceptive pain estimation using personalized multitask learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Pain is a subjective experience commonly measured through patient's self report. While there exist numerous situations in which automatic pain estimation methods may be preferred, inter-subject variability in physiological and behavioral pain responses has hindered the development of such methods.
