Pair-Production Avalanches Revisited [PDF]
As noted previously in this meeting, any millisecond pulsar that is not perfectly aligned must obviously be strongly charged electrostatically simply because the wave zone is so close to the surface that any trapped neutralizing electrosphere over the polar caps will be driven away beyond 6 or 7 neutron-star radii.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

The open string pair production revisited
The experimental efforts in testing the QED vacuum properties such as the Schwinger pair production in the presence of a strong electric field have so far not been successful. This raises a potential possibility regarding our current understanding of the

A possible signature of extra-dimensions: The enhanced open string pair production
In analogy to the Schwinger pair production in QED, there exists also the so-called open string pair production for a system of two Dp branes, placed parallel at a separation, with at least one brane carrying a worldvolume electric flux, in Type II ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Slepton pair production in the POWHEG BOX
We present an implementation for slepton pair production at hadron colliders in the POWHEG BOX, a framework for combining next-to-leading order QCD calculations with parton-shower Monte-Carlo programs.

A novel HPGe-BGO pair spectrometer
We report on a novel design for a HPGe-BGO pair spectrometer with the aim to enhance the performance of existing HPGe detectors for high-energy γ-rays. In addition, the BGO shield as a standalone detector allows for a use with the selective detection of ...

Compact low-noise GeV-scale electron-positron pair spectrometer
Recent studies have successfully demonstrated a high-flux GeV-scale gamma-ray spectrometer using energy spectra of electron–positron pairs generated in a high-Z converter.

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
