Laser-driven muon production for material inspection and imaging
We numerically show that laser-wakefield accelerated electron beams obtained using a PetaWatt-scale laser system can produce high-flux sources of relativistic muons that are suitable for radiographic applications.

Pair Production and Optical Lasers [PDF]
Electron-positron pair creation in a standing wave is explored using a parameter-free quantum kinetic equation. Field strengths and frequencies corresponding to modern optical lasers induce a material polarisation of the QED vacuum, which may be characterised as a plasma of e^+ e^- quasiparticle pairs with a density of ~10^{20}cm^{-3}.

Kink pair production and dislocation motion. [PDF]
AbstractThe motion of extended defects called dislocations controls the mechanical properties of crystalline materials such as strength and ductility. Under moderate applied loads, this motion proceeds via the thermal nucleation of kink pairs. The nucleation rate is known to be a highly nonlinear function of the applied load, and its calculation has ...

Dynamical Pair Production at Sub-Barrier Energies for Light Nuclei
In the collision of two heavy ions, the strong repulsion coming from the Coulomb field is enough to produce e+e− pair(s) from vacuum fluctuations. The energy is provided by the kinetic energy of the ions and the Coulomb interaction at the production ...

Electromagnetic pair production with capture [PDF]
Calculations of the electron-positron pair production by a single photon in the Coulomb field of a nucleus with simultaneous capture of the electron into the K shell are presented. Numerical results are given for some nuclear charges up to 92 and energies from threshold to 15 MeV.

Recent Cross-Section Measurements of Top-Quark Pair Production in Association with Gauge Bosons
This article reviews recent cross-section measurements of tt¯ production in association with a photon, W or Z boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). All measurements reviewed use proton–proton (pp) datasets collected by the ATLAS and CMS experiments ...

Photon–Photon Interactions and the Opacity of the Universe in Gamma Rays
We discuss the topic of the transparency of the Universe in gamma rays due to extragalactic background light, and its cosmological and physical implications.

Fully differential vector-boson fusion Higgs pair production at next-to-next-to-leading order [PDF]
We calculate the fully differential next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD corrections to vector-boson fusion (VBF) Higgs pair production. This calculation is achieved in the limit in which there is no colored cross-talk between the colliding protons ...

Higgs boson pair production at NNLO with top quark mass effects [PDF]
We consider QCD radiative corrections to Higgs boson pair production through gluon fusion in proton collisions. We combine the exact next-to-leading order (NLO) contribution, which features two-loop virtual amplitudes with the full dependence on the top ...
