Observations of Pair Programming
Proceedings of the 47th ACM Technical Symposium on Computing Science Education, 2016Sixty-nine pairs of Latino and white middle school students were video recorded as they pair programmed for approximately 20 minutes. We quantitatively analyzed the partners' interactions specifically looking at characteristics of their collaboration.

Over 80 pupils in four unstreamed classes in a boys’ grammar school were divided into mixed‐ability and like‐ability pairs in order to work together through a programmed text. No significant difference was found between the performance of individuals in the mixed‐ability pairs and that of similar individuals in the like‐ability pairs.

Paired Comparison Rankings by Linear Programming
Communications in Statistics - Simulation and Computation, 1973The problem of estimating partial and complete paired comparison rankings is formulated as a linear programming problem. The solution of the problem immediately yields a ranking. A treatment of ties is considered as a result of which the solution of the program may explicitly have two objects tied in the ranking. Such a ranking is called partial.

This paper examines the effectiveness of programming in pairs in the Scratch environment in primary school. The motivation for tackling this issue is based on the successful use of Scratch as a learning environment for any students of programming. The analysis has shown that that programming in pairs produces better results for beginners in comparison ...

Effective distributed pair programming
Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Global Software Engineering, 2018Pair Programming1 has quickly become a widespread technique for teams adopting Agile. The interest has gained even more popularity for those implementing Extreme Programming (XP) which is a well-known Agile methodology. There is a general agreement that pair programming works well with a pair of developers working side by side.

Studies of pair programming both in industry and academic settings have found improvements in program quality, test scores, confidence, enjoyment, and retention in computer-related majors. In this article we define pair programming, summarize the results of pair programming research, and show why we believe pair programming will help women and men ...

Pair Programming vs. Side-by-Side Programming
2005In agile methodologies communication between programmers is very important. Some of them (e.g. XP or Crystal Clear) recommend pair programming. There are two styles of pair programming: XP-like and side-by-side (the latter comes from Crystal Clear). In the paper an experiment is described that aimed at comparison of those two styles.

Test-first pair-programming tutorial
Proceedings of the 10th annual SIGCSE conference on Innovation and technology in computer science education, 2005This hands-on tutorial covers two practices of Extreme Programming (XP): Test-First programming and Test-Driven Development. It focuses on the deeper aspects of these practices, including how they affect productivity.

Student attitudes toward pair programming
Proceedings of the 11th annual SIGCSE conference on Innovation and technology in computer science education, 2006Students in four introductory programming classes who participated in a pair programming study had very positive attitudes toward pair programming: they liked it, thought that it was fun, would like to do it again, and believed that they learned more because they paired.
